notes

A Tribute to Gene Autry and his music, in conjunction with the "Centennial Celebration" of Gene Autry's Birth in 2007. Gene Autry was born in a farmhouse near Tioga Springs, Texas on September 29, 1907. He spent most of his early years living in Oklahoma. Gene was working as a telegraph operator at the railroad station in Chelsea, Oklahoma and passing the time during his midnight shift by playing guitar and singing, when he was discovered by a smiling train passenger, Oklahoma's legendary humorist and radio personality Will Rogers. Gene Autry's family has joined with Rainy Day Records, Gene Autry Entertainment, and The Autry National Center in Los Angeles to produce an album to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of his birth and pay tribute to Gene and his music.

From the inception of this wonderful project, the outpouring of support from the entire Country Music Community has been overwhelming. The album includes performances by Glen Campbell, Charlie Daniels, John Anderson, Ian Tyson, Pam Tillis, Marty Stuart, Connie Smith, Jim Lauderdale, Kim McLean, T. Graham Brown, Alan Autry, Restless Heart, The Time Jumpers, The Texoma All-Stars, and Riders In The Sky, as well as another "Favorite Son of Oklahoman" Vince Gill. Gene's cousin, Charlotte Autry, an artist from Oklahoma, has also performed. The album includes a historic Duet with Gene by Randy Owen, from the legendary country band, Alabama!

Happy Birthday Gene!
