CINCINNATI - Music education is getting a little help from its friends, as a group of local musicians have combined to create 14 Nights, a compact disc to benefit this important initiative. The CD features LIVE performances of 14 artists recorded on City Nights, the television show that showcases the local music scene. Proceeds benefit VH1 Save The Music Foundation and LINKS -- Lonely Instruments for Needy Kids.
Producers of City Nights selected the performers and their songs from more than four years of archives. Appearing on the CD are Ryan Adcock, Balance All-Stars, The Graveblankets, Homunculus, Langus, Lomax, Brian Lovely, Greg Mahan, Maurice Mattei, The Simpletons, Jake Speed and the Freddies, The Stardevils, Tonefarmer, and Tracy Walker.
City Nights has been on-the-air since 1998, with a totally volunteer crew, and has brought over 150 local acts to its television audience. As well, City Nights has worked with national acts such as The Ass Ponys, Eliot Sloan (of Blessid Union of Souls), Buddy Guy, The Outfield, Men At Work, Molly Hatchet and Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame Songwriter Mitch Ryder and the Detriot Wheels.
"It's something that we at City Nights had wanted to do for a while, and Time Warner Cable was able to provide the financial backing to make it happen," says Jason Dudas of Telecommunications Board of Northern Kentucky, which produces City Nights.
"We wanted to produce the CD to highlight the strength and variety of the local music scene, and to provide an opportunity for musicians to have another avenue to show off their talent," says Rob Howard, Director of Public Affairs Branding and Media for Time Warner Cable. "The idea to use proceeds from the sales of the disc to benefit local music education through VH1 Save The Music and LINKS came soon thereafter. It's a natural fit."
