notes
"Why this brand of solid, progressive rock has not been the replacement for the hoard of trashy hard rock bands on the airwaves nationwide is a mystery to me." - Impact Press
"Guitarist, singer, and composer, Eric Johanson, has traveled far from his tenure as a hot-handed young Stevie Ray Vaughan wannabe on Memphis' Beale St. Based now for several years in New Orleans... Johanson conceived Cire, a project that references the likes of A Perfect Circle with its ambitious arrangements, shards of driving, metallic guitar, industrial breaks, and lyrics culled from the psyche's shadowy corners." - Times Picayune
Cire is guitar-driven, intelligent rock that has been described as combining the odd rhythms of Tool, the soulful improvisation of Gov't Mule, and the hi-fi production of Nine Inch Nails. Listeners, however, will soon find all of these desciptions inadequate to express the depth of vision in Cire's music.
Started in New Orleans by artist/producer Eric Johanson, Cire's musical influences range from industrial to blues, but the sound would generally be classified an original species of rock. Though Cire's music features intense melodic compositions and musicianship, the lyrical content is, to many, just as important. The ideas present in Cire's music have been influenced by many different works of philosophy and science. The first album, Pleasure Is Our Enemy was highly inspired by the dystopian literature of George Orwell and Aldous Huxley, as well as the social philosophy of Bertrand Russell. Cire's new CD, Adrenological, has been inspired by the evolutionary psychology of Matt Ridley, Steven Pinker, E.O. Wilson and others, as well as the pragmatic philosophers William James and Richard Rorty.
Adrenological is a brain-tingling experience that far surpasses Cire's first release in both beauty and intensity. The jazz/hard rock drumming of former Cire drummer Doug Gay compliments the polyrhythmic grooves found throughout. Intricate rhythms, contemplative melodies, and psychological explorations form the basis of Adrenological.

one of the best records i've never heard
author: Marco Valeramany reviews said that it is like tool and a perfect circle and nine inch nails that's right but i dont like to compare bands because each band has something personal and the eric's voice its very personal. influences are clear ( NIN , APC , TOOL) i agree but I found something diferent in cire that I never heard in other bands. Fuckin' amazing cd guys I want a Cire show in Spain in the future.
Refreshing
author: outsiderThis band is already on the heels of a perfect circle and tool after only two cds. If you're tired of listening to bands that you've heard are like tool or a perfect circle and you were disappointed, look no further. I'm really excited about this bands future.
Awesome. Like nothing I've ever heard before.
author: NickThis is an amazing CD. The music is like nothing I've ever heard before, and it's some of the most mesmerizing music I've ever listened to. I've listened to it over and over again and can't get enough. It's simply amazing. Must buy.
This CD is a great trip
author: DogstarThis CD was recommended to me because I'm a fan of Tool, A Perfect Circle and Nine Inch Nails. It does indeed have touches of all three bands along with the band's own spin. I love the melodies and subtle harmonies, and the song structures are not your typical verse-chorus-verse pieces of music. This is like traveling a winding road where the journey, not the destination, is the focus. This CD has quickly become part of my regular rotation. I can't wait to hear more from this band.
this is a nice adventure through space inspired rock
author: JoeI will admit, I am not done listening to this album, its very good all the tracks have different elements which make them all memorable, I will say that there is a little bit of redundancy to it, which makes the sound a little cliche, if anything its a victim of its own success none the less the moments where the band does shine alone make this a worthy pickup, make it part of your collection today!
Awesome cd guys, really nice sound that creates a really nice mood
author: Dylan KGood cd, quality music, this is what I'm talkin about
total mind orgasmatron
author: alycethis cd is amazingly true and enlightening, usually the truth hurts, but with this album, the truth is like a multiple mind orgasm leaving you wanting to listen over and over again. please don't ever stop! two very high thumbs up!

Great CD!
author: Joey CheungThis CD is simply amazing! A friend recommended this band to me because I like Tool and its already become one of my favorite albums! I can't wai to hear the first CD, "Pleasure is Our Enemy" and also Eric Johanson's new project Emptyself!
tool+apc? maybe but here we're talkin about new music
author: bleeding bunnythis cd is emotional. would you like emotions? would you like a voice that lead you to the "other" side? and the music, ohhhh the music... a fresh mixture of heavy riffs, electronic trips and pounding bass lines. and the lyrics? smart and deep, intelligent concepts that reveal a great study. i just need more music like this.
This CD is -great-.
author: MichaelThis CD is great, although even great CDs come with some faults. And maybe that's because I'm just not used to Cire's sound entirely just yet.. it's one of those CDs you tend to grow into I'm noticing. All of that being said, this certainly doesn't mean that Cire hasn't put forth one hell of an album. Tracks like Laugh Some Day, Tryptamind, and Spaceotemporal I find myself listening to on repeat. Laugh Some Day caught my attention immediately from the sound samples here.. and that's actually why I bought this CD, for that track alone. (Certainly, the other tracks I now enjoy from this CD were a wonderful added bonus.) There's definitely a hint of Maynard vocals here, although I don't hear it quite as heavy as others. The songs, in general, rock beautifully. There're a couple of songs here that are short fills, but they're few and far in between. If you're interested in a little R&R with a melodic, creative band, give this CD from Cire a look. I definitely look forward to a next release. (I hope there is one!)
Tauting Talent
author: NatashiaI happen to buy this CD as a gift for my Fox. Little did I expect to have to lower myself to writing a ransom note for his Cire CD:) This CD (plus a WhiteOwl) will throw you back into a state of questions that only you would ask. Tool brawn with the Incubus brains, I very much digg the talent put into this album. I will have to give a huge two thumbs up on the voice of Cire. One of those voices you would melt into liquid fire if whispered in your ear *shivers*. I do hope that since I'm just next door to LA, that we might get a show here in TX. The Fox and I thank you for a job well done!
Great disc, if you like Maynards [tool] vocals buy this CD.
author: MattThe only reason I gave this CD 4 stars is it's similarity to the afformentioned artist. Sounds like it could be off Undertow, or perhaps as raw as Opiate. But, it branches off in ways that early tool did not, with some samples and great musical guitar solos. I for one love the raw and technical sound of this disc and am already looking forward to a new one. I've had the cd for about a week now and have listened to it everyday, this is a rare thing in these days of no or half-talent wanna bes. Buy this CD, you won't be sorry, I promise. I've spent 11 bucks on CD's that don't even compare to the sonic quality of this release by major label artists.
Talented!!
author: KevinIf you hang with Perfect Circle or even some Tool than you can hang with Cire!!
Ladies and Gentlemen - Serious Talent In the House
author: MileHighPeteIn short, this is a stunning piece of work. Eric Johanson is a very talented musician who has created a lyrically-intense, musically-diverse masterpiece. Comparisons to Tool spring to mind for me, as they have for other reviewers, though Cire's sound is cleaner, less brutal and less angry. Mr. Johanson is a blues guitarist at heart, and while the music of Cire is far-removed from 12-bar workouts, his guitar playing shows its roots to great effect, a style of playing all-too-rarely heard in contemporary rock. The album is well-produced, the sound economical but rich. In summary, a truely pleasing and rich listening experience, which I cannot recommend any higher. My clumsy words cannot do this CD justice - you must hear it for yourself.
A must add to your collection CD!
author: Jason CostaWhat can I say....It doesn't get better then this. The fact that I'm here writing a review on this cd tells me that this band hasn't gotten the credit it deserves. A cd find like this one is the reward from listening to countless bands trying to find the next best thing. There are few bands/cds that make me sit back and just say WOW. This is one of them....and if your hearing this music and your not convinced...maybe you should start listening to it!
Great stuff!!
author: Johnny KruidhofImagine a less aggressive Tool and then add a few guitarsolos here and there. Great songs, good voice, great drummer. Great cd!!
Excellant CD from start to finish
author: Kevin AlcombrackI bought not even knowing what I was buying, never heard of them, heard just a little taste of there songs and that was enough for me to purchase there new CD, I got the cd(very quickly I might ad)and seriously have not stopped playing it, the music is very well produced, the songs are very well structured, excellant musicianship, excellant vocals, this is a well crafted piece of art and I would recommend this to everybody that is into flat out good music, there is no way you can go wrong with this CD, buy it and enjoy for yourself, excellant job CIRE.
An Incredible CD!!
author: Blake SkinnerWith definite influences from Tool, Cire uses that foundation and builds on it; creating an incredible experience. From the start to finish this CD has to be one of the best I have ever heard; Both the music and lyrics are nothing short of amazing. If you haven't purchased a copy of this CD yet, order one now; you won't be disappointed!
Wow, Double WOW, BUY THIS CD! You NEED IT!
author: Jesse Mesa-SavageLet me tell you, this CD blew me away. I am absolutly floored. And I am a tough sell. I don't praise much of anything. But there aren't enough words in the English language for me to descibe how this album has touched me. From the scorching guitars to the truly transcendant lyrics to the booming, intricate drums it opens your ears and opens your mind from beginning to end. Its ambition and intelligence are evident from the start. If you like music that makes you think, music that gets in your head not because its catchy, but because it changes you: then get this CD right now! Mark my words, Cire will be the next big thing. I can't wait to see the live show. Its supposed to be a power trio, when you hear the music you'll wonder like I do how they will pull that off. Also, beleive it or not the same guy wrote, sang, played guitar and bass, recorded, mixed, mastered, and did all the art. A great example of someone not doing it all out of a need to prove their ego, but because they truly have the vision and talent to pull it all off. Bravo, Cire, this CD will live in my collection for all time.
