Christyl Benford was born and raised in Denver Colorado. By age 8 she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, being influenced by her family’s strong Christian values. Christyl begin to sing in church choirs, under the direction and leadership of her mother, and various youth groups. She was inspired by her mother as well as others, who demonstrated many talents for the Lord which included Director of music, minister of music, praise and worship leader, choir director, psalmist and musician. Christyl often directed choirs and occasionally was forced to sing lead on Sunday mornings. Often she tried to replicate well known, however complex singers such as The Clark Sisters, Vanessa Bell Armstrong and Shirley Murdock to name a few.
During college she was apart of the Bethune-Cookman Gospel Choir. Later she was given charge over the praise and worship team at her current church Colorado Christian Fellowship, soon after that, accepted her call as a prophetic psalmist. Christyl was also the assistant choir director that taught songs, parts and gave vocal warm ups to the praise team and choir.
Christyl was ordained April of 2005 as a licensed minister. She performed in Dr. Dorinda Clark-Cole’s Singers and Musician New Artist Showcase in 2006, and is currently one of the lead singers in Heritage Christian Center’s Colorado mass choir headed by Kurt Carr in Denver Colorado. She also ministers in song around the city for different venues. In addition to starting her own recording label, My Rock Records, Christyl has finished her demo and is now working on her full length album and writing and producing music for other artists.
