notes

Influenced by George Gershwin, Keith Emerson, Theolonius Monk, Mark Knopfler, and Pat Metheny, Christopher Leighton's sophisticated, affecting compositions have garnered enthusiastic reviews from his peers. Leighton reveals his brilliant versatility by using jazz-fusion, pop, blues, country, New Age, and rock motifs to craft unforgettable works. His ballad “He Said Go” was recognized by garageband.com as “Best Keyboards,” “Best Lyrics,” and “Best Mood” in World Fusion on last June. Leighton’s “Tonight’s Blues” was voted “Track of the Day” in Blues Rock in January, and ‘New York Blues Shuffle” was named “Best Lyrics” and received the Best Potential Soundtrack award in Blues Rock in January. Re:Visitor was featured on top ten lists in four categories - New York, Northeast US, Unique, and Soundtrack.
Leighton has been performing and recording for three decades. An accomplished guitarist, he is equally at home on the bass and keyboard, combining these instruments with percussion tracks to create the right mix for his distinctive melodies and background music. His goal is to provide an eclectic mix of sounds for artists' and producers' multimedia and recording projects, or for use in any setting.
Leighton was born in The Bronx, New York, to a computer programmer (father) and classically trained pianist (mother). When he expressed interest in the guitar, his parents urged him to study classical method. He did so for six months, but he soon was inspired by artists such as Jethro Tull, Eric Clapton, and Carlos Santana to high tail it to the library to find books on rock and jazz guitar. He taught himself chords and scales, practiced, and at the age of 19, hit the road, playing in acoustic and electric bands across the USA. While living in Des Moines, Iowa, he studied music theory and worked with the Iowa Arts Council. He performed in clubs and at various events, including the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon.
He shares his life with his wife Lidia Wusatowska-Leighton, their five rescued parrots and two cats. He lives in Mahopac, NY.
