notes

Christine and Jon, the popular, Michigan-based duo specializing in historically accurate renderings of popular songs, ballads and torch songs, have marked November 2006 by presenting their first full-length offering: "High Tea in Tin Pan Alley." The CD is a tuneful cross-section of some of the finest American song standards from as early as the 1920s through the 1950s, with a couple of their own songs thrown in for good measure!

In their first major release, vocalist Christine Schinker and pianist and songwriter Jon Milan (Milan & Pinkerton, The Brakemen), are accompanied by the Huron Valley Serenaders, a Popular trio that specializes in historically-accurate, small group jazz arrangements and improvisation. In addition to Milan, the group’s personnel features Detroit area jazz favorites Tom Bogardus (Phil Oglivie’s Rhythm Kings and Royal Garden Trio), Brian Delaney (Royal Garden Trio), Mike Karoub (Royal Garden Trio) and Paul Klinger.

  • TREAT YOURSELF!

Christine sounds as seductive as Linda Ronstadt - Jon plays with the elegance of Warren Bernhardt, or the late and much missed Don Grolnick. This is a wonderful set of new versions of those classic songs you fall in love to - and in love with. The two self composed peices are well worth a listen too. STOP READING - LISTEN FOR YOURSELF!

Christine and Jon take you back in time to when vocals and instrumentation were finely crafted pieces of art. Christine's lovely voice combined with Jon's piano playing, plus the addition of 3 other musicians, all work in harmony with each other to give the listener a very unique experience. If you like music from the 20's through the 40's, you will love this CD! Most Baby-Boomers would enjoy it, and my guess is their parents would love it for sure!
