notes
Christina Ray is a Singer-songwriter from Huntington Beach, California (www.christina-ray.com) who has been recognized by VH-1’s Save the Music Foundation, after winning First Place in the Country division for VH-1’s Song of the Year Contest with the featured song, "Do You Ever Love Me?". With a simple arrangement of vocals and a guitar, this was a confirmation to pursue the dream of songwriting.
Her debut album (released April 24, 2007), “Who I Wanna Be” is a mix of Contemporary Country songs – below the radar and off the charts! Of the 11 tracks, Christina wrote all but one – Undeniably Wild, which was written by Sue Cross and Peter Dobson (also featured on CD Baby, check them out!)
As an unsigned artist, Christina strives to further her songwriting career. She enjoys writing solo or with co-authors. Christina Ray, Keith Adams and Peter Dobson wrote featured song, “Those Wrangler Jeans!” Keith enjoys writing as a past time, while Peter teaches guitar, produces albums, writes, arranges and mixes. He is also singing background vocals in a couple of the songs. Peter can be found on occasion, in Laguna Beach at The Guitar Shoppe, where he is busy as a guitar instructor, amongst his many other talents.
The musicians on this album are absolutely superb! Peter Dobson, both musician and producer, plays an array of guitars and truly adds dimension and direction to this album. Sue Cross plays a wonderful, warm bass and keeps the rhythm grounded. Michael Fickling turns it up a notch with his awesome drum playing, while Tom Bagley adds a beautiful touch with keys. Vocalist Larisa Evans, also from South Orange County, offers impeccable vocals as a background singer on a couple of the songs. Many thanks must also go out to Recording Engineers, Stephan Jonas from Standing Stone Productions in Laguna Beach and his wife Crisi who put up with us (late some nights!), Rick Delmonica at Rick’s Place in Fullerton, and Jeff Haddad at Beach Cities in Mission Viejo. Additionally, Jay Stewart from Lake Elsinore, who mastered the cd. As a side note, Stephan Jonas also offers his vocals as the Cowboy in “Those Wrangler Jeans!” Yee-haw!
Other contributors to the album were Photographer, Kevyn Major Howard at KMH Studios in Los Angeles and Graphic Designer Amy Wong who resides in Peru (http://www.amy-wong.com). Additionally, The Guitar Shoppe in Laguna Beach for lending their facility to songwriting sessions and Boot Barn of Orange County for providing wardrobe for the album cover’s photo session.
Enjoy the album and please write a review when you get a chance. It comes with an 8-page insert with lyrics, credits and photos. If you like it, please tell all your friends.

Powerful, yet delicate.
author: amy-wong.comChristina Ray's debut album, Who I Wanna Be, it's a delicate taste of Californian-flavored Country music, lyrically powerful accompanied with mellow tunes. At the end of a mostly positive-thinking, good-feel album, one can only wonder how powerful Ray's lyrical composition will become with a little tiny bit of angst, with samples such as Three Don't Make a Pair.
This CD is a kick! Great song writing! Fun music!
author: SueThis CD is a kick! The songwriting is unique, emotionally powerful, covering a wide range of topics. The music rocks with a country flavor. Christina delivers every song straight from the heart and has a good time doing it. The whole album is a whole lot of fun.

This CD goes back to what country music started as, simple and beautiful instrumentation, meaningful lyrics and a melodic singing voice. Simply beautiful.
