notes
This recording focuses on the original compositions of pianist and composer Michel Petrucciani. Christian Jacob's wonderful arrangements and new take on these compositions is a reminder of why there is always a need to expand our musical boundaries beyond the jazz standards we are already familiar with.
Petrucciani's music is the perfect vehicle for this trio. You will appreciate the level of communication and musicianship in this trio. Michel's compositions, although very challenging, allow the trio to really stretch musically, and that musical interplay and desire to serve the essence of these songs is what makes these beautiful compositions accessible and fun. The audience will hear how much fun the trio is having in the studio, but they will also hear the reverence that is shared for this great music, even if the songs are unfamiliar to them.
When you listen to this CD, you'll hear a collective approach. The goal is that all of the elements of this recording- the compositions, the interpretations, and the individual performances- will combine to create a more powerful impact than any one individual element. This is where Christian Jacob excels. He is as strong as any solo voice out there and yet his playing inside the trio is no less astounding. As on their previous critically acclaimed CD “Styne & Mine”, pianist Christian Jacob, bassist Trey Henry and drummer Ray Brinker, demonstrate a collective brilliance that has to be experienced.

author: Gil LesterThe quality of the recording is excellent. Being a musician I appreciate the extra effort that it takes to record with this quality. The trio reflects what a group can sound like when you have played together as long as they have. It is a comodity these days. I really hope the trio keeps recording, not many playing at this level these days!
