Northeast Performer Magazine
Boston based singer/songwriter, Chris O'Brien took to the guitar after seeing Shawn Colvin and the Indigo Girls in concert when he was twelve. Struck by his passion to learn the guitar, family friend Dar Williams sat down with Chris and taught him to play the chords and songs in Shawn Colvin's songbook "Steady On."
His stepmother, a former manager at the famed Iron Horse in Northampton, is also a folk DJ. Chris grew up surrounded by music and musicians, he was raised on a steady diet of Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon. Influenced by Martin Sexton, David Gray and Richard Shindell he started crafting his own songs by the age of 14.
After a few years of college in Oregon, Chris returned home and became a regular face at the Iron Horse open mics. With some encouragement from friend Stephen Kellogg Chris moved out to Boston to try his luck in the renowned Cambridge Folk scene. The folks at the legendary acoustic music venue Club Passim immediately embraced the young songwriter and present him on stage on a regular basis. He is also finding success in New York City venues and has returned to western Massachusetts...this time as a featured artist.
Chris has opened for David Wilcox, Anne Heaton, Frank Marotta Jr., Jake Armerding and others.
His first collection of songs, "Apt. 4," debuted in 2002 on The Robes Music and is heard on WUMA in Amherst and WUMB in Boston. Bay State Sound featured the young folk singer on their compilation CD, "Boston's Best Singer-Songwriter Showcase, Vol. 4."

Sweet and Soulful
author: Suzi SingletonChris O'Brien's music is so heartfelt and accessible. You feel his words. The music is beautiful and his voice sweet and soulful. Can't wait for his new cd. I listen to this disc a minimum of 4 times a week. And I've made everyone I know listen to "Hey Love". As far as I'm concerned, this is a must own CD.
Beautiful Music
author: Catie EichbergChris's CD is absolutly amazing. His melodious voice and soft, gentle, thoughtful words flow through the room and wrap themselves around me like a huge hug. Chris's talent is undeniable and this CD leaves me wanting only 2 things: a trip to the Berkshires, and MORE MUSIC! Thanks for keeping my ears happy and a smile on my face.....this music truly is awesome.

Chris makes me so happy
author: Jonah SpearChris's work is honest and heartfelt. He is patient, passionate and present. and pretty. His music takes me right to the Berkshires, lights a camp fire and puts wool socks on my feet. This album pours me a mug of red zinger and when he sings, it's like honey in my tea. The only thing this demo lacks is more songs.
