notes
A rising guitarist on the NW music scene,
Chris Mosley represents the natural evolution
of jazz improvisation and composition. Having
attended Boston's Berklee College of Music,
he has studied with some of the world's
top musicians including Joe Lovano, Mick Goodrick
and Dave Fiucynski. This July 6th at Jimmy Mak's,
the Chris Mosley Quartet will be celebrating the
release of their new CD, Outside Voices, on the
local label, Diatic Records. Comprised of some
of the best young jazz players in Portland,
the Quartet has a sound that is rich with improvisation
and interaction, sometimes open and surreal, other
times fiery and pocketed. Featuring the original
compositions and guitar prowess of the leader,
the virtuosic improvisations of saxophonist Tim
Willcox, and the chameleonic rhythm section work
of bassist Bill Athens and drummer Randy Rollofson,
this is a band worth experiencing and a must-see
for any fan of contemporary improvisation.
