notes

Music is art and there is no limit to what you can do or where it can take you. To put a name on it is to limit it", says Chilton, a singer, songwriter and producer whose influences vary from Curtis Mayfield , Prince and Jimi Hendrix to Earth, Wind and Fire and Led Zeppelin.

"I believe that if you can play one style or genre of music you should be open to hearing and playing other styles. That is true musicianship. That is true song writing." Says the Atlanta based artist who describes his sound as free yet aggressive and bold. "Music is free flowing like water, and it has no predjudice either you like it or you don't."

Chilton has collaborated with many in the Atlanta music scene such as Tag Team, Skunk, Eddie Stokes, Azure Macklin, Mr. Jonz, and Nadirah. In 1995 his big break came when he played guitar on and sang background for Speech's (formerly of Arrested Development) solo debut album. The double platinum album launched Chilton into the spotlight and on a worldwide tour with Speech. He has also performed on national television programs such as " Late Night with Conan O' Brien", and BET's now de-funked"Teen Summit".

In 1999 Chilton founded www.chiltonmusic.com and in 2003 founded Chiltonmusic.com records. "I felt that through my website, it gave me the best opportunity to release my music in a time and a fashion that was to my liking." The multi purpose web-site and label has afforded Chilton more freedom to create different music and multi-media projects either by himself or with friends. "This year is going to be big for me and the band because I am releasing two records that are completely different yet still have our imprint on them. This is a very productive and exciting time for me." As for the current industry woes of low sales and piracy. "We have entered into a new day, people want to connect with the people that they listen too. It is no longer about going double or triple platinum. Music today is about who can reach people with their music and live shows, that is what we are all about."

  • An album that sweeps the listener in
    author: Rapport

I give four stars, but this album deserves six stars, and I know others will give it that. For music and lyrics which can move generations, this album meets the test. My advice: order enough copies of this album to give to your grandparents, your child, and your child's teenage friends: they will all get the message involved in IS. It IS, and IS is great!

  • It is about time
    author: Music Critic

It is about time that a musician gave his heart and soul to the audience like CHILTON has in IS. He takes us on an emotional journey through human emotion. Love, Hate, and Insanity. He makes us question our place in the world while enjoying the ride. Clever lyrics, seductive bass lines, and melodic bridges take us to a place that some old heads may have forgotten even existed. It is hard to believe that this talent is unsigned but in the day and age of Master P and other DO-IT-YOURSELF artist more dollars for the artist and that cannot be all bad. I applaud CHILTON'S courage to take that leap...It is good to know that he steped out on faith and landed on solid ground.BRAVO!

  • Powerful, yet smooth. Kickin' it!
    author: Silicon

Music and lyrics, supremely presented in every piece in this masterpiece. Words that challenge, and affirm. Thoughts that bring hope. No question about, this album and this artist will soon be the talk of the club scene and the television scene. Easily gets my vote as album of the year. This year and next!

  • Great.Wonderful.Delightful
    author: Trevor

The lyrics and the music are great! This artist speaks to a whole generation of young people who have suffered from terrible words and terrible music. Hopefully they will take the time to listen to this bright light on the horizon. Give us more of this kind of music!

  • Magnificent!
    author: Stinky

This CD not only touched my heart, but it moved my soul. The way Chilton blends meaningful, impactful lyrics with intense beats is incredible. I've been a fan for years, but I have to say, this is his best work yet! And yes, Damn, I Should of Loved You is absolutely beautiful. That song puts into words every person's feelings of losing the love of their life. It's like he's in MY head. The next star of our generation!

  • The Rebirth of the Cool
    author: Arty

There was a time when R&B was made by Men's Men like Wilson Pickett, Sly and his Family, Earth, Wind and Fire, and Prince. Sometime after this it took a decade-and-a-half dip into guys singing through their noses to programmed drums (did somebody say Boyz II Men?) and frontin' gangsta rap that wasn't representin' nuthin' but nuthin'. Finally the genre returns home to pure get-down guitar and kick-in-the-ass drums on Chilton's debut, IS. It IS new, it IS different, and if you're wise it IS in your record collection. Purchase now.

  • Great! Awesome! Thoughtful! Well-done.Professional.
    author: Damon

Chhilton is a breath of fresh air in a morass of foolishnes and harsh words and thoughts. He is wise beyond his years, and his impact will be felt for years to come. Put him on television, and let the world quickly discover this professional. I can hardly wait for his next release. If words of praise are needed, count on me to provide mine. He has my vote. Thank you, Chilton.

  • The world needs more Artist like Chilton
    author: Andy A

Man I just got my CD today and I haven't yet stopped playing it. This to me is a remarkable accomplishment for an R&B artist. I haven't heard anything like this in my life. I think you could safely put this cat up there with anybody on top. Lenny Kravitz, Van Hunt, Eryka Badu, Jill Scott even Prince. He is that good trust me!! I hope this CD sells well and belive me I am going to point everyone in your direction Chilton. This is a MASSIVE CD and it deserves all the attention it can get.

  • Who IS this Guy and where have you been all my life
    author: Mae 05

Breathe taking, absolutly breathe taking! Of all the CD's that I have bought this year. Jill Scotts', Van Hunt's, Prince's. This is by far my favorite. I just can't believe where he takes his thoughts musically and lyrically. I think he could single handedly save R&B radio if he ever got the chance to be on there. However I think that he is too good for any sort of format and so his biggest strength is also his biggest weakness. I love this CD and I hope I get the chance to see him live.

  • Uncommonly Good!!
    author: D

I can't think of a better CD that has been released all year, that's independent and major. This guy is good!! I also appreciate the fact that he doesn't pander to the hip hop crowd just good straight forward modern r&b funk!!!

  • Damn I love this CD!!!
    author: Sherry

Okay this CD would be worth it for the ballads alone. I mean I have never heard a man articualte love like Chilton does on Damn I shouldve loved you. That song is awesome. But when you add that to ecstacy and the slow jam. You have a Marvin Gaye class loves crooner. Not that he stays with ballads. I mean Superstar is a great way for a new artist to introduce himself and Trouble's Coming is a remarkable song about the woes of todays inner city. Bravo Mr. Chilton you have won a fan in me!!!

  • I love this CD awesome on all fronts, Music, lyrics and engineering
    author: Frank Jackson

I fell in love with the lyrics and the lush arraingements. You just don't hear this much thought put into modern R&B. I don't know why I am not hearing this guy on the radio or why he is not on some major label but oh well. The labels loss is CDbaby's gain. I think this is the must have CD for anyone who really loves R&B/Funk music.
