notes
The legendary Chick Willis can properly be called “The Don Of The Blues” because he’s the “Godfather” of today’s Party Blues. His megahit “Stoop Down Baby” is the precursor to every double entendre-filled hit on the Chitlin’ Circuit from Clarence Carter’s “Strokin’” to Theodis Ealey’s “Stand Up In It”. They owe their existence to the “Blues Don” Chick Willis. And the Don offers two more hits to remind them who’s the boss. “Undercover Hootchie” & “Bootee Call”, which will bring Chick to his commercial peak.
BUT, wait! There’s more to the story. See, Chick Willis, the Stoop Down Man, may be widely known for his funny stuff but he’s equally respected as a straight Blues guitar great as evidenced by the W.C. Handy Awards he gained for his acclaimed “From The Heart And Soul” album.
This fabulous new CD manages to appeal to both camps without alienating either- from those who like clever Party Blues to those who like lean, mean “nuthin’ but da blues” with a lil’ Soul & Funk thrown in for good measure.
