Elliott Chavers a "Saxaphone Player Musician" who arrived in Los Angeles in 1950 from Waco Texas to explore the Jazz scene. Finding Jazz a job and making a living was a complicated matter, as Elliott says in Texas all music is the same, in other words you played all the styles from Jazz to Country to Western. In order to survive he was called upon to join the Rhythm & Blues gigs, which he recorded over 100 records in his name. He was in and out of the 5-4 Ballroom in the 60's as house band. This CD was made to please Sax, Jazz and Blues lovers, with the Big Sound he is known for on Tenor & Alto Sax. Sound wise he takes a back seat to no one including some of the old Masters whom he highly regards as the real Saxophone players.
If you're wondering why these selections were chosen for this performance, Europeans music lovers love oldies. Exciting is what the "Elliott Chavers Jazz & Blues Band" is, especially while performing "LIVE". Elliott who was on a two week tour was blowing the Blues the whole trip. This CD consists of various tunes, some originals some Blues standards which are free flowing & loose.
You would have to see ELLIOTT perform to appreciatethe full value of this CD, especially when he plays the Alto and the Tenor Sax at the same time with the alto upside down as noted on "Blues Upside Down".If you like soulful straight ahead Jazz & Blues that you can dance, pat your foot to, or just sit and be cool, this CD is for you.
