notes
Charmaine, former front woman of Reggae girl band Worl-A-Girl, has decided to go it solo.
Worl-A-Girl, who had been signed to Chaos/Columbia and then East/West Records, seemed poised to go far. The group's credits included co-writing the soundtrack feature "Jamaica Bobsled Chant" for the Disney film Cool Runnings, which garnered gold status, the Bob Marley cover "No Woman No Cry," the still popular "Six Street" and "Murder He Wrote." The group performed the world over including extended tours of Japan, the Carribean, Canada and the United States and have made television appearances on David Letterman, The Arsenio Hall Show, BET and channel 13's What's the 411.
In 1995, coming off a successful Reggae Sunsplash! Tour, Charmaine broke the news to her band mates that it was time to part ways. Over the next few months she started singing backup with emerging reggae stars such as Glen Washington, as well as established artists the likes of Marcia Griffiths. She also started work on her project Say You Love Me, her first solo effort since co-founding Worl-A-Girl four years earlier. Charmaine, who made her record before there was any such genre as 'Neo-Soul', the word that best describes her style, was definitely ahead of her time. But, with the recent advent of artists such as Kina, India.Arie and Jill Scott, there is new life for Say You Love Me and Charmaine's undeniably funky, reggae-rock vibe.

I love it -- this is Charmaine true to her unique self. Charmaine has the key -- a real VOICE, all her own (no imitations, no glossing over - just the real thing). Now the rest of the world has to catch on. Can't wait to hear the next one.
