notes
Hovering somewhere between folk, Americana, and pop, with influences ranging from Norah Jones to Ryan Adams, Charlotte Kendrick's "I Get Stupid" is a stunning, timeless collection of deceptively simple songs, each one of which will raise your spirit while simultaneously breaking your heart. The subtle and restrained production, courtesy of producer/collaborator Dan Rowe, provides the perfect moody backdrop to the main attraction - the smooth, intimate, and inviting voice of Charlotte Kendrick. You'll remember where you were and what you were doing the first time you heard Charlotte sing.
Though she had played music all her life, Charlotte didn’t get into song writing until her early twenties, when she spent 2 years in West Africa with the Peace Corps. With no electricity, her main source of entertainment became playing guitar and writing songs. The experience inspired her to pursue music as a career when she returned to the states. She moved to NYC, got a job bartending, and started going to open mics. She soon met producer and fellow-musician, Dan Rowe, and they began working on her debut album, "I Get Stupid". A few weeks before the release of "I Get Stupid", Dan accompanied Charlotte on bass at the Village Underground, and they have been on stage together ever since.
Since 2004, they have released a live album, "Live at the Roger Smith", booked a 40+ date tour across the country, and opened for artists such as Jackopierce, Lucy Kaplansky, and Steve Forbert. They have played almost 200 shows in the past 2 years. Recent accolades include:
- Top 10 Finailist at the Plowshares Songwriting Competition (March '07)
- New Folk Finalist at the Kerrville Folk Festival (May '06)
- Winner of the Folk category in the VH1 Song of the Year Contest (March ’06)
- Honorable mention in the 2005 Billboard Song Contest
In the spring of 2006, Charlotte signed a publishing deal with Sonablast Records, the New York-based independent label. They are currently re-releasing "I Get Stupid".

One of my favorite cd's of all time. The purity and of a live situation really suits Charlotte's music. It's Soulful and with a subtle intensity throughout, and there's great songwriting on every track. The version of 'Drag you Down' still gives me chills a couple years after it was released.
dan and charlotte, we absolutely love your music and can't wait to see you live
