notes
Hungry Monk Music is proud to announce the release of a CD recording on the Hungry Monk Recordings label. Animas by Delia Chariker is a beautiful recording of Native American flute, voice, guitar and percussion. These rich improvisations feature the flute playing and solo voice of Ms. Chariker, with accompaniment on guitar and percussion by John Holenko. Delia is a vocalist, guitarist, and native flute player who has been writing and performing music for many years. Ms. Chariker holds a degree in Music Therapy from the Naropa Institute and has used her music as a healing tool throughout her career. The word Animas means "souls", and the deeply contemplative music on this CD is both an expression of her present view of the sound world in which she works, and a call to her ancestral past, upon which she builds her musical aesthetic.
The sound of this CD relies heavily on the Native American flutes Ms. Chariker has been playing for many years, with the help of vocal overdubs, acoustic guitar, and percussion. While taking advantage of the resources of a modern studio, this recording captures a very live, immediate, all acoustic soundscape that places the listener in a natural environment such as a cathedral, or reverberant outdoor space.
