notes

Chance Gardener has been dubbed one of the most under-rated bands on MP3. With MP3 chart topping hits ("Wherever You Go", "The Letting Go") to acoustic reveries ("Lorelei", "Heaven"), Chance Gardener makes music that is melodic, driving and thoughtful. Listeners are not clubbed into submission, instead they are inspired to participate and identify. It is music for people who've had enough of angry-rock, but who don't care for bland "cookie cutter" rock either. Chance Gardener rocks with a heart and mind, and a love for jangly guitars, power chords, and close harmonies.

I first listened to this cd on the cdbaby website...and was instantly hooked. The songs really speak to you. It's one of those cd's that you always keep in your cd player. I would recommend this cd to anyone who is a fan of Matchbox 20. Chance Gardner should definately be played on the radio. Thanks cdbaby for turning me on to a great group!

  • Chance scores again

Well folks I’ve been a big fan of Chance Gardener for quite a while now. It all started over a year ago when Bob Sima (one of their lead singers) asked me to review ‘Wherever You Go’. Instantly I knew that I’d found something wonderful. Here was a song that was raw and powerful with beautiful execution. Better still, after listening to ‘Save Me’, ‘The Letting Go’ and ‘Continue’ I discovered that they had depth in their ranks. Yep, they have a real knack at producing radio ready, highly accessible songs with deep and insightful lyrics. And they do it time and time again. So it’s no surprise then that ‘The Smaller She Gets’, fresh out of the Chance Gardener music bakery is indeed all of that and more. ‘The Smaller She Gets’ is about a young girl who is supposed to make her fathers day. She doesn’t make the cut, her father makes her feel guilty and hence – the smaller she gets. Lines such as: “You should be ashamed you haven’t made my day” really grab at your heart. To me in many ways this song marks a new height for Chance. Any problems that I had back in 2000 have been fixed. Bob’s vocals are incredible, the recording is warm and the band is as tight as tight can be. I’d be hard pressed to find a single thing wrong with it. So where are Chance going from here? Well, if you’re a local to the Baltimore, Washington DC area then I’d expect you’ll be hearing them on your radio pretty soon… that’s if you haven’t already. Beyond that it’s hard to tell but my fingers are crossed that they’ll someday be able to make an Australian tour. This tune and indeed their whole repertoire are worthy in anyone’s collection. If you haven’t yet made yourself familiar with Chance Gardener then do it, and do it now. Then buy their cd. You can find out details from their home website: chancegardener.com

  • Chance Gardeners Hooks are sharp! ...but the tunes are soooo smoooth!
    author: Mark Jeacoma

At first listen I immediately found myself humming the songs and now in its third listen (or is it fourth?) I am listening closely and am finding extremely well written songs both lyrically and structurally. The recording are clean and focussed and I believe the singer (like the way I believe Stevie Wonder or James Brown, a true sincerity in his voice) Rarely do we give thumbs up to much but I must say Chance Gardner is the real deal, keep your eyes on these guys. I have to add one last thing, You guys put Dave Matthews as a similar artist, I strongly disagree...I found your songs to be much more honest and likable than the DMB....but hey that's me..."

  • Excellent lyrical music

Head nodding, wine drinking music. Sit down, put your feet up, pour the wine, and LISTEN. Music to relax to, dance to, smile to, whatever. Good music knows no boundaries. Buy it or miss out on something special.

  • Song writing at its best!
    author: George Ormond

In rock n roll there have been many groups that have two great songwriters. The Beatles, Squeeze, The Clash, Bare Naked Ladies, The Bodeans, and now I can add Chance Gardener to that list. Most bands have trouble finding one good singer/songwriter, and then bands like Chance find two! It hardly seems fair, but their loss is our gain. It is more then the songs that make this group stand out in my head, like the above-mentioned bands, it's the combination of everything, the songs, the guitar playing, the singing, the drumming, the production. This CD is like a potato chip; I can't have just one. Keep it up guys!

  • upbeat acoustic-based pop.
    author: Scott Bloom

Very nice, upbeat acoustic-based pop. They're not going to be playing the big arenas any time soon, mostly because the songs aren't going to resonate with the dark angst of the typical angry teenager. But for settled and stable gen-xers approaching middle-age, or boomers who still keep up with the music scene, it's pleasant songwriting, strong vocals and tasteful musicianship.

  • I could not believe how good this CD was
    author: James Boyd

I was turned on to Chance by a friend of mine. When I first heard these beautifully written songs, I found myself instantally addicted. The words spoke to me, the music moved me. If i were to pick a favorite (and that is very hard) I would have to say either "Save Me" or "Continue" I have no idea why this band is not more popular then they are!
