notes

Sir Charles Hammer began playing guitar at age 12 in Riverdale, Illinois. He began playing Beatles' music and rock 'n roll. In his 20's he developed an interest in classical guitar (Segovia). A 6 month vacation in Mexico turned into 5 years of serious classical guitar studies. Sir Charles became fluent in Spanish and adept at reading and performing classical guitar.

In addition, he performed with a salsa band: Los Fenicios de Puebla. The 90's were his back-to-school years... he recieved both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Guitar under Dr. Jim Greeson at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Next, he taught guitar and music history at the University from 95 - 99. In '98 he won a music composition award from the Arkansas Arts Council for original music featured on his CD: "Gratitude".. Sir Charles toured Mexico several times and performed in Europe as well (Spain, France and Holland).

Mr. Hammer's original music shows his varied interests and influences: healing, gentle, classical pop with touches of easy rock, blues, flamenco and of course Spanish guitar. Surely one of the world's great guitar masters, Sir Charles Hammer's 10th and final CD "It's Only Love" features incredibly beautiful arrangements of 18 of the very best Beatles songs. Check it out! You'll be glad you did..

  • Sir Charles. What else do I need to say?
    author: Tony

Sir Charles was the master of Beatle cover artists. His wonderful versions of these clasic Beatle's songs is awesome. I will miss listening to hime live. I look forward to having all his music in my collection soon.

  • Excellent ambient interpretations
    author: Alan Sturgess

Many great interpretations of many classic Beatle melodies, plus a few less well-known ones. The arrangements are deceptively simple but always completely listenable. Not everyones' favoutites could be here, but it's a shame SCH didn't include Lady Madonna or Let it be. For my tastes, this album is a perfect complement to Chet Atkins' album of Beatle tunes .... one acoustic and one electric. Highly recommended.

SCH - Among the great Beatles tribute CDs of the past few years, It’s Only Love features 18 instrumental solo guitar recording from Arkansas-based guitarist Sir Charles Hammer. Commenting on his 2003 Beatles tribute CD, Sir Charles adds, “As I worked up these arrangements, I was constantly amazed and delighted by the subtle intricacies of melody, harmonies, counter-melodies...unique musical twists and turns which makes their music so wonderful.” An excellent guitarist with a number of CDs to his credit Sir Charles does the right thing with the Fab Four’s legacy reviving 16 Lennon-McCartney classics along with two tracks by Beatles’ guitar great George Harrison. Influenced by guitar greats like Steve Howe and Steve Hackett, Hammer’s exquisite work on classical, acoustic and occasional electric guitar is only surpassed by the long enduring fascination each of these evergreen Beatles songs continues to radiate. www.sircharleshammer.com
