Common Ground was forged with love in the fiery depths of the Commercial Music Program at Waco's McLennan Community College. Phil Wilson (drums) and Steven Rosas (guitar) met in 1990 while attending the program... it was rock at first sight, and the band was born. The catalyst for Common Ground's sound can be attributed to the addition of Bill Hunter on silky lead vocals & rhythm guitar, and Jimmy K on meat-and-potatoes bass guitar. Both members also attended the Music Program and the combination of influences helped give the band's sound a broader range of textures without sacrificing the energy and smells their fans have come to expect.

Inspired by artists like Foo Fighters, Toadies, and Jellyfish... a duo of all-original, independent recordings were released: "Mostly on Mondays" (1996) and "Fragile" (1999). Both projects were recorded at Direct Resonance Recording Studio; a semi-pro studio owned and operated by Steven. These releases gained the group a moderate but rabid following throughout the Central Texas area, and ovulating females everywhere were in clear and present danger. With their third CD, "Take 3" (2004), their songwriting style and recording techniques matured into what has become their signature sound: strong radio-ready hooks with hypnotic guitars, power drums, throbbing bass, and a healthy dose of distortion.

Common Ground performs regularly throughout the sexy state of Texas while tracks from "Fragile" and "Take 3" can be heard on KBRQ FM Waco, and the syndicated radio show Texas Shock Syndrome. The band's material can also be heard on several internet radio stations and can be downloaded at dozens of digital download websites such as Napster, Apple iTunes, MusicMatch, and more.     This is awesome... I thank you so much...You guys are witty and talented...your Band Really Rocks! I'm not just saying that! I've been in this business for over 30 years "live" on stage and I know what sounds good ...You guys not only sound good...you sound great! I will play your music all the time on my shows and I think your stuff impressed a lot of the folks in that Chat Room too...It's in the IRL Vault now and I'm sure the other DJs will gobble it up...lol....THX again...Billy G

    "I can't fall down. My feet don't touch the ground" is how the anthematic "Better Life" kicks off Waco-based Common Ground's third release, Take 3. The music is easy to listen to and lead singer Bill Hunter has a nice vocal style reminiscent of Jon Bon Jovi. Take 3 is a really enjoyable fifty-three minute ride. The lyrical contents of the songs don't delve too deep into the mysterious, and the guitarwork adds a wonderful rhythmic rock sound. It sounds contemporary without sounding cheesy, classic without sounding dated. I guess what I'm saying is... it's nice to hear a guitar solo again. Their fan thank-you song is "The One." It's a sweet Dangerous Toys (think Teasin' Pleasin' era) jam. "Driving two blocks or two days away. All we need is you and a stage to play. Playing and performing is what we do best. Singing silly songs. Forget the rest." Drummer, and band co-creator, Phil Wilson takes lead singer duties on four of the fourteen tracks including "Take A Bow," and "Bottle of Dreams." The former focusing on the smoke and mirrors facade of the music business, the later about being "happy singing the blues." All of the songs included on this album are originals, penned by one of the members of the band. Hunter, along with lead guitarist Steve Rosas, take on the bulk of the writing duties. Common Ground has been around since 1990 with albums out in 1996 and 1999. Bassist Chuck Williams recently left the band, so they aren't playing live at the moment.     You guys have a great sound! I found myself nodding or tapping my foot along with almost every track, from the infectiously catchy "Better Life" to the more aggressive-sounding "Take a Bow". The lyrics are simple but great, and the vocals were my favorite part. I love distinctive voices and you guys definitely have one of those. The album's quality is wonderful, and the sound is very tight and pulled-together. You sound excellent and my favorite song off of "Take Three" would have to be either "Alive" or "Perfect."

    "not the artist in general." That's a bit hard considering I have seen them perform so many times and am personally acquainted in some way to them all. But from the very beginning, the music makes you get up and move, just like their live shows. You can feel them singing TO you, not around you like so many other 'local' bands. Maybe that's because I put a face to the lyrics, but that should make you want to see them live all the more. This cd brings the boys up to speed in what they owe their listening audience. Every song is strong as well as detailed, and they keep the sound clean and sharp. They keep you baited, wanting the next song then the next song then the next. Although, as a rule, the lyrics are simple, it's easy and refreshing to follow the story in every song. The Monster song is especially noteworthy because it was written for and about their children. How could you want more than that? Bill's voice is always sensual and honest. Phil beats out rhythms that shake your whole body on his drums. Chuck keeps the flow smooth with his awesome bass, and Steve is like the glue that seems to wrap everything into one tidy little package, that when opened, explodes in your ear and your body. Wow. I've never written a review before. See how good this band is for people? :)

    CG knows how to cut a groove - and is nice enough to tack sing-along melodies on top. Their rocking jams from "Fragile" including the mid to upper tempo "Evans Park" opener, their snaky leadoff single "Twisted Lives", and tear jerking booty-getter "Inside" make it hard not to appreciate their song writing and musical capabilities. I'm looking forward to their 3rd CD, sure to be a hit, which will include "Better Life" with bounce enough that you can bet it will become a summer road trip staple if they can get it done by January 2003. It's hard not to appreciate the band's versatile rhythms and ear for texture. And you don't even have to send off for one of those goofy T-shirts. And boy you should see em' live! Sweet Lord O' Mighty!

    Being as sexy on stage as they are, it really makes for a difficult time enjoying the music of Common Ground at live shows. But that's the price you pay for being 4 sexy bitches in rock'n'roll. All jokes aside, Common Ground has the sound that everyone entering a studio is in search of. Breaking through the monotony that rock music has grounded itself in, Common Ground bring originality not seen since the New Originals so long ago. Lyrics that jump out and scream for your attention, without the need for screaming, shine through on cd's such as "Fragile." You can't help but want so badly to sing along the first time you hear songs like "Take on the World", while it's guitar riff grabbing you by the balls. Their newest work, "Take Me With You" picks up right where "Fragile" left off, proving that with 4 talented musicians, and 4 emotionally charged songwriters, you might just be able to stop staring at the bulges in their pants long enough to rock.

    The band known as "Common Ground" is a Waco, Texas based rock and roll band featuring some of the industries finest singers, players, and song writers. Already boasting a 3 compact disc collection of songs, this working rock ensemble can woo you with 3 part harmonies yet take you to the top with edgy guitars and solid rhythms. This original four piece group can be said to have been influenced by "The Beatles" but in no way could they be considered to be a clone of anything. Original, gutsy, hard hitting, yet musical is the best way to describe the winning combination of Chuck Williams on bass, Steven Rosas on lead guitar and vocals, Bill Hunter on guitar and lead vocals, and Phillip Wilson keeping the groove on drums. Do yourself a favor and keep an eye out for these boys because they will be coming to your town and they will be ready to ROCK......YOU!!

In the years I have known the members of Common Ground I have come to find only one thing common about them and that is their common desire & drive to write, record and perform the 'best' original music they possibly can. Each member of Common Ground brings their own special 'ingredient' to a "rock" gender cooking pot of music making that when mixed together gels into a tasty main course of lyric and melody that draws emotions from euphoria to mellow reflection from those lucky enough to experience the music of Common Ground.
