Power pop at its finely crafted best. Brilliant vocal harmonies and biting lyrics create the sonic equivalent of a cozy feather bed filled with razor blades. Paul Simon and Lou Reed meet Elliott Smith and the Beach Boys.

notes
"The front runner for album of the year in 2006. Flat-out brilliant... a stunning debut."
-- Alan Haber, Host, "Pure Pop" WEBR Fairfax, VA
"...fans of intensely highly styled pop will fall down and worship at the altar of Brown."
-- Bruce Brodeen, President, Not Lame Recordings
"If you like clean, well-orchestrated pop you will love this! (the dude can write one heck of a Pop song). The vocals, which are layered and rich, remind me of the Beach Boys with a dash of XTC -- seriously solid singing...Give it a listen...I fear you may be impressed.”
-- Renee Richardson, Host, KFOG San Francisco, CA
"...already one of my faves for 2006."
-- Craig Leve, Host, "Snap, Crackle, POP!" KWVA Eugene, OR

Great tunes, excellent performances, killer sounding album. A must have CD!
author: Terry CarolanEvery now and then I hear a song that I'm sure I'll listen to for the rest of my life. Not the kind of tune you play 50 times and put away, but one that you always go back to and it always moves you. That was the case when I heard "All My Rivals". To my great surprise and pleasure, there were more tunes on Chris Brown's album that hit me the same way. These days it is rare to find such a strong album, but "Now That You're Fed" packs in many of the finest elements of pop music without being trite or formulated. The quality of the songs is enhanced by the superb production, credited to Chris Brown and Chris Manning. My only wish is that the album had a different name, but that isn't much to complain about!

chris brown my love
author: leeanni love chris brown's cd and chris brown is so fine.
Best Power Pop Debut in the Past Five Years.
author: Dan OstrovThe music is a mix of XTC's baroque, angular twists with Paul Simon's melodic, economical, acoustical arrangements. The vocals are almost whispered a la Elliott Smith (or Nick Drake), but often lushly multilayered with Beach Boys-like complexity and beauty. The final result is ornate -- sometimes bordering on majestic -- but full of musical surprises while still retaining heart and warmth. This album is an amazing accomplishment, whose $15 price tag (ouch!) is more than justified by the repeated plays that it both demands and rewards. There's not a bad track here. Today, I particularly love the title track and Waiting For Caroline (which sounds somewhat like Bridge Over Troubled Water morphing into the Beach Boys' version of the Four Freshmen's Graduation Day), but tomorrow I may be more taken by any of the other tracks on this stunning album. Just great!
Brilliant!
author: Jeff Shelton, KSCU RadioA rich, engaging record filled with sophisticated song structures, stacked on harmonies and an amazing warmth and clarity even the savviest of hi-fi snobs would turn an approving ear to. Brown’s real-life born lyrics are filled with zest and zeal and add even more astuteness to an already smart album.
Good stuff!
author: Blair WalkerI think Chris' record is excellent. It's reminiscent of great records like XTC's "Nonesuch". The lyrics read like really solid poetry, even without the music. I'm really glad I bought it.
Don't Miss It Don't Miss it Don't Miss it thrice
author: StefanoMemorable! Listen to that small jewel that is "Things She Laughed About" and tell me if this is not Nick Drake with no time for self indulgence..it's bright unexpected XTC evoking lyrics&melody cocktails (My Rival, Now That You Are Fed), mrtambourine's cherished scattered shadows set on fire by unfettered drumming (now this can only be Chris Brown!), murder tainted pinkfloydish ordinary days. Beautifully mixed, shines in its apparent simplicity. Had to say one single thing I wasn't totally delighted by, it's maybe overdoing voice choirs a little, but hey, it's my problem after all.Sparkling with self hyrony but watch out, lyrics corrode!
Truthful
author: A.I feel like a kid again, I played it over and over and can't put it down. The music? Beautiful! The lyrics? Well, beautiful too...well-written but dark, you know, sooooo daaaark! And why is that good? Well, I think it IS, because, after all, life is not Disneyland!
Perfect power pop
author: Windy ChienPerfect power pop is oft-attempted but rarely attained. By which I mean it rises above the standard formula of chiming chords, hook-filled choruses, and clean guitar strumming. When it's perfect, the unpredictable arrangements, the lyrics that make you wanna rewind to hear them again, the perfectly-timed bridges, and the ridiculously pretty chord progressions all conspire to make the considerable effort involved seem effortless, timeless, classic, and just plain great. Chris Brown's glorious, sunny debut album is all that and more, a gorgeous record produced by Chris Manning of fellow power pop geniuses Jellyfish. Think the Raspberries, Big Star, McCartney. To hear this music is to love it.
An underground gem!
author: Cara GreenJust when I was beginning to wonder if we'd ever see another pop songwriter with the melodic writing talent of Brian Wilson, the vocal harmonies of Freddy Mercury or the lyrical wit of Andy Partridge (XTC), along comes Chris Brown to assure me that we will....that we just have. "Now That You're Fed" succeeds in all of these areas and is one of those time-enduring CDs that only gets better and better every time you listen. Be the one who told your friends about him first...Like Elliott Smith once was, Chris Brown is an underground gem.
sheer bloody poetry
author: cmxAlternately beautiful and playful, the songs stick. You'll find yourself humming them throughout the day. The best part is the depth though. Each listen you catch new layers of meaning and texture. Things you thought were simply sweet reveal a dark underbelly or biting commentary. Personal and universal. Love it!
This Kicks Ass!!!!
author: Chris ManningI love this CD, Chris Brown takes a lot of risks and delivers great songs all around. A fresh breath of air, when you are suffocating from all the mediocre, un-imaginative sameness that you hear all over the radio these days. **highly recommended**
