notes
Tito: In Search of a Revolution is a re-release of Cat's A Bear's first cassette-tape release. It has been remastered to compact disc, with an improved sound and signal.
The recording presents the compositions of the band members, with the majority of the contributions coming from the guitarist Frank Singer. Bassist Tony Stefanelli and drummer Joe Dorris each contribute to the writing, including the composition Positive Energy, which features the soprano saxophone of future band-member Phil Papotnik.
Subdued and powerful, open and intense, the texture of the trio creates meaning out of space, and then obscures the space with frenzy. Utilizing the harmonic concepts of jazz progression, with deep homage to McCoy Tyner and John Coltrane, Cat's A Bear ventures into modern music with funk grooves, latin romps, BeBop morsels, and hypnotic forays.
All three band members are featured as soloists, with open intros by the guitar and drums (Knick's Knack and Bill's B.S. respectively), and a bass feature (F-It). This first entry in the Tito Archives is worth a new listen!
