notes

Cat is a hard-rocking female guitarist originally from Ohio. Not one of your "chick" guitarists. She can actually play the thing!

Cat started out first on the trumpet at age 6, took up the guitar at age 12, and began playing in bands just a few months later. She started out playing lead in all-male (except for her) bands like "The Es-Shades," "Simon Legree," " Caesar's Children," "Mongoose," and "Cat" and then later in mostly all-male bands like "Falcon" and "Harlow". These bands toured most of the US, opening for many major acts and doing extensive club work. One of these bands worked with artists like Percy Sledge and Donna Fargo.

She then moved to Toronto where she joined the successful all-girl band "Apple Viper" who appeared on TV, placed in several competitions, recorded, and toured Ontario and Manitoba.

Cat wrote original songs and music scores for the movie-shorts "Rules, Regs, & Arrears" & "The Interrogation". She has recently completed scoring the movies "Birthright" & "Sunshine".

Miss Rood is now working on a blues based CD with vocals where she is playing everything INCLUDING the drums.

In 2000 she released a solo instrumental CD entitled "Guitar Play" which she recorded in her home digital recording studio. Cat wrote all the songs and played every instrument except the drums. The CD features the guitar and some trumpet. Now Cat has released her long awaited second CD "How Rude!" It too is all instrumental along the same lines as "Guitar Play". It's guitar all the way this time without the trumpet, however. It's been compared to something Jeff Beck or Joe Satriani would do. Guitar rock! Check it out if you like pure guitar fun!

If you’re a fan of guitar wizards, then this might be something for you! Cat played all the instruments by herself, except the drums. They come from a machine, called Alesis SR-16. Nine songs with a total length of about thirty minutes are on this “How Rude!”. It’s a nice collection of different styles, in which Cat shows us that she’s a real talent on the guitar. She’s really fast in “The Check Is In The Mail”, but on the other hand she can be very sensitive too, like in “Tragic”. Her guitar speaks many languages. I think the style of a guitar hero like GARY HOEY comes really close to what CAT ROOD’s music is all about. If you don’t know GARY HOEY however, you can also read JOE SATRIANI or JENNIFER BATTEN instead of that. The variation of styles, the virtuosity of this lady and the way she presents this CD (everything was done all by herself) makes this CD a very interesting release. It’s good to see, that there are still some well-talented female guitar players in the scene who are not afraid to show what they are capable of. Recently, Cat has written songs and movie scores for short movies like “Rules, Regs & Arrears” and “The Interrogation”. If you go to www.cat-rood.com, you can read all the other information you need to know about this blonde guitar goddess. In “The Long Wait” you can hear that this lady is not only a great talent on the guitar, but also on the bass guitar. Besides that, she also plays synthesizers on “How Rude!”.
