notes

2004 GRAMMY Nominee for Best Recording Package, 2004 DIY Album Art of the Year and Producer of the Year (Cathy Richardson). Features 4 songs co-written with Kristen Hall (of the platinum-selling country band Sugarland), including the lilting Blindsided by Love, a duet with Emily Saliers of Indigo Girls.

"Cathy Richardson and her eponymous band are no strangers to anyone who has followed local music in the past decade. Her hook-heavy pop/rock songs and powerful vocals have been an enduring presence on the Chicago scene. Richardson's latest release, The Road to Bliss, delivers to her faithful another helping of the sounds they have come to know and love, in a CD package cool enough to garner a Grammy nomination for Best Recording Package. The artwork directed and designed in part by Cathy herself, follows the road trip metaphor contained in the album title and is one of the most unique CD designs in recent memory. Fear not, though: The music contained inside the record is some of the strongest of Cathy's career.

Richardson's best trick has always been hooks, and she is still able to turn in an instantly memorable tune. 'This Town,' a collaboration with her ace guitarist Joel Hoekstra, is one of the best presented here and contains a lyrical theme with which many Chicago musicians will relate. Another high point is Richardson's gentle duet with Indigo Girl Emily Saliers on the ballad 'Blindsided by Love.' The two singers share an easy chemistry that is evident in their vocal interplay. The Road to Bliss features Cathy and her band at the top of their form, both musically and conceptually. It's an evolved, mature effort from an artist who has built her career from the ground up and is now ready to move into her own bliss and beyond." -MIKE O'CULL, ILLINOIS ENTERTAINER
