When Cathy Barker sings, people really listen…some are lead into contemplation; some smile, some cry and some just sing along. The audience never feels as if they are being ‘sung at’, when she’s singing, but rather that she is welcoming them the opportunity to open their hearts and minds to a meaningful and joyful experience. Her confident presence and commanding yet alluring voice entices the listener into the very essence of the lyrics whereby the true message of the song is conveyed. Not every vocalist can do that without being entrapped into focusing on showcasing their voice alone.
Cathy graduated from the University of Kentucky with a major in Music Ed. and sang in as many groups as possible. She sang harmony vocals for over eight years with Chakra Bleu – the pop/rock act whose songs charted on the A/C, AAA, and college format radio stations across the United States as well as several European countries.
Currently, Cathy Barker has branched off into a promising solo career fueled by her first CD, ‘Take the Time’ which was co-produced by Chakra Bleu and Ficalora Productions. She has been a long time active soloist at First Church Unity in Nashville, Tennessee as well as the reputable ‘Nashville in Harmony’.
Cathy’s greatest joy in life is sharing the gift of music by singing the heart-felt songs of her soul.
