notes

Beginning in 2001 with the single “Twilight”, Portland’s Electronic Psychedelic Goth band was formed. Cathedral Park, created by singer/song writer Autumn, began as an outlet for experimental music that he wanted to create away from his main projects, The Fallen (1999-2001) and later Ghost Parade (2001-2006). Autumn started working with Bryn Shoop in 2004 as the bass player for Ghost Parade. In the Fall of 2006, Autumn invited Bryn to play as a guest artist on an upcoming project he had in mind for Cathedral Park, an EP release. Autumn and Bryn began working together and found an artistic connection that neither one of them had until this point. They worked together and released an EP, creating the stepping stone to launch Cathedral Park into the Portland gothic community. Later in 2007, Autumn and Bryn returned to the studio to record their current album, “Monument”. As the release of the album grew closer, the news of their release spread out of Portland and into Europe. This 15 track album was released on October 30th with 2 music videos, written/directed/edited by Autumn and Bryn, and a “Making Of” documentary style film.

Cathedral Park is made up of Autumn (Vocals-Keyboards-Programming) and Bryn Shoop (Bass Guitar-Programming). Holding onto their originality and signature sound, Cathedral Park tends to use analog recording techniques, adding to the swirl of strings and backward masking pieces, held together by Bryn's deep bass tones and Autumn's up front Bowie-esk forward vocals. Carefully crafted lyrics with open ended story lines create imagery of dark dreamlike surreal landscapes; this album creates undoubtedly an atmosphere of despair and depression through a powerful harmony of sounds and lyrics that few other dark bands have succeeded in creating. Influenced by such artists as Peter Murphy, Depeche Mode, early Cure, VNV Nation, Wolfsheim and David Bowie, Cathedral Park can be described as dark wave, electronica or synth pop. Cathedral Park is currently preparing for their upcoming tour in 2008 which will include the Western United States and Europe.
