THE NEW ALBUM-"THE BRIDGE"

"The Bridge" has been built. The big symphonic sound, the Mellotron, bass pedals, classical guitar, and dramatic themes have been carried over. Three years of experimentation and rehearsal have gone by, more than a year of recording, editing and mixing. Finally "The Bridge" is ready for the public. The classical precepts of progressive music were never far from our mind. The new work pays tribute to it's roots but is also a "bridge " to the Cathedral of the future.We literally had to rediscover our chemistry after thirty years of life experience and new technology. It has been a very challenging journey.
In 1978 "Stained Glass Stories" was recorded above the Palace Theater in the then wild and notorious Times Square of Manhattan. We had a week to do it. The modern Cathedral chose a more serene setting and pace. We spent much of 2006/7 at Ian London studios close to home on the South Shore of Long Island. Deer grazed on the back lawn but inside we were co-producing in the same passionate, intense way that we write our music. Our long time colleague and proprietor of Paris Recording, Brian Unger was brought in to engineer.
The future is now before us. We've already returned to writing, eager to put to use new ideas that have catalyzed from the process of last year.The chemistry is there, new compounds are forming, formulas evolving. Cathedral moves forward.

    More polished. Production is very good. Brings back old memories of when Prog got its start. Great job Cathedral!!

  • Defining the term Prog Rock

    Wow! Rising above the prosaic, bland offerings of lesser prog-rock mortals, this CD really offers signs of compositional genius, IMO. The complexity of the songs will take more than a casual 5 or 6 listens to grasp the full wonder of all the gems on this disc. Kudos have to go to Paul Seal as he is in top vocal form, sounding so much more controlled than on Stained Glass - he really brings The Bridge to life. The other musicians are no slouches either and ALL offer some of the most tasteful, complementary point counter-point playing and melodies these ears have heard in a LONG time. Despite some criticisms at Mercury's use of electronic drums (a feeling I too had at first) I think I understand now, after many listens, why he went this route. He is able to put forth a huge 'palet' of sounds which would be near impossible with a conventional acoustic kit. Again, Paul, Mercury, Fred, Thomas and David are all in top form on this disc. Thanks Cathedral for the prog rock surprise of the decade.

    I'll confess to being slightly disappointed at first that this wasn't covered from head-to-foot in mellotron :-) but that was soon forgotten. This is a great band effort with great tunes that grow insidiously on you and has a crystalline, sometimes even sinister sound. The keys more than make up for the missing weight of tron with variety and subtlety. The whole band is on form but a special hats off to the singer who is in wonderful voice throughout. Look forward to the next one....but not another 30 years please!

    It was way too long, but I am glad they are back. It's like they never were away. A must buy for any prog fan.
