notes
This is the first release from jazz pianist Brian Cashwell. He is joined by the wonderful rhythm section of Steve Flora on bass and Tony Franklin on drums. There is also a very special guest appearance by superb guitarist Dan Faehnle (former Diana Krall tour member).
Brian became fully immersed in jazz a few years ago, after receiving a master's degree and studying for a Doctorate in classical performance at Cincinnati's College-Conservatory of Music. In addition to gigging, Brian is a teacher, an accompanist for the Cincinnati Ballet, and has played for touring productions of "The Producers" , "Hairspray", "Beauty and the Beast", and "The Phantom of the Opera", just to name a few. He is currently lives in New York, and is continuing to grow as a musician there.
"Pure Imagination" is an eclectic blend of standards, originals, and even a piece by Maurice Ravel. This is definitely a jazz album, but Brian's classical background comes through, especially in his original work.
..."the calm delicacy of his delivery; his preference for shapely, unforced melodic contour; and his regard for both the melody and the lyrics of a standard, even when the lyrics remain unsung"...Nate Dorward, Cadence Magazine
