Album Notes

THE CARTER JAZZ QUARTET The Carter Jazz Quartet is a family of musicians from the Washington Metropolitan area. Our motto is “the Family that plays music together, stays together”. The members of the Carter Jazz Quartet are as follows: Russell Carter Jr – Drums Rahshaan Carter – Bass Roland Carter – Piano Russell Carter Sr - Tenor Sax Russell Carter Sr and Ellen Carter introduced the kids to Jazz at an early age at the DC Music Center, where Mrs. Carter was the Director. Mrs. Carter is also host a radio show at WPFW on Wednesdays at 7pm. So the kids always had music around. Music lessons started for Russell Jr on drums at age 5. Rahshaan started violin or piano lessons at age 4. And Roland began piano lessons at age 5. The Kids gained ensemble experience under the direction of Russell Sr. through the DC Music Center Youth Jazz Ensemble, which was created to help young musicians in the Washington Metropolitan Area develop invaluable qualities such as; self-esteem, confidence, and self-discipline, through the study of Jazz. Russell Carter Sr. is the current director of the DC Music Center. Three years ago Rahshaan, “not wanting to compete with his dad on saxophone”, switched to the bass and the Carter Jazz Quartet was born. The Carter Jazz Quartet has performed at the East Coast Jazz Festival, Twins Restaurant and Lounge, HR-57 and The Islander. The Carter Jazz Quartet was also featured for the entire month of March 2003 on Prince Georges Public TV, Channel 76. For performances, the Carter Jazz Quartet can be reached at 301 567-5605.
