Carneyball Johnson, the big-groove freeform live electric powerhouse releases their first, full-length, studio recording -- “Carneyball Johnson”!
The band is comprised of multi-instrumentalist Ralph Carney (Tom Waits, Jonathan Richman, Jim White, Oranj Symphonette, Tin Huey), guitarist Kimo Ball, percussionist & drummer Scott Johnson and bassist Allen Whitman (The Mermen, Henry Kaiser). Carneyball Johnson mixes it up, pulling on their favorite music from The Yardbirds, Sun Ra, Frank Zappa, Thelonius Monk & Desmond Dekker, and others, as springboards to improvisation; keeping it fresh and spontaneous.
While Ralph Carney’s musical career has often found him adding colors to other artists’ work, his new project Carneyball Johnson is a group of strong musicians who are creating their own unique brand of instrumental prowess. They take some of their life-long influences out to new places that meld their diverse backgrounds in rock, jazz, world music and surf. Carneyball Johnson’s humor sets them apart from the horde.

A Tasty Treat !
author: Kathy JuneI recieved this CD a week ago and it has not left my player. Excellent musicianship, great production, and loads 'o fun. Great arrangments of some classic songs, from slinky lounge to beautiful Ra. Have fun and enjoy this explosive and unique blend.
Smart, tasty and funny
author: MikeThese guys are smart and funny. Plus, they are good musicians. This CD contains a nice variety of selections, from a range of genres. I'm partial to Willie Vs. The Pimp (Variations On A Theme) and Ska-ing West, but all the tunes have something to recommend them. It's a well-produced CD from a high-quality band.

KIMO RALPH SCOTT & ALLEN do first rate HI FI SNOCK to quote the Hurley monkey on a shit boat straight to hell. KLezmer Yardbirds with screaming KAZOO solos yes I am a fan of WACKY!

author: skip hellerThere's nothing like Ralph Carney, and everytime I listen to Ralph, I feel great about America, the way Charles Ives, Sun Ra, Studs Terkel, and Ernie Kovacs make me proud. Plus Kimo (the guitar player) is amazing, just as a bonus.
