Every so often a superstar is discovered- a star that is untouchable and appears to transcend all earthly boundaries. But, there is nothing about Carmen Rodgers that is untouchable, yet her music definitely says superstar. In fact, she is so touchable that you can literally feel the warmth of her broad smile. Her "home girl next door" charm resonates through a serenic flow of words that seems to invade your most private thoughts. It's the delivery of those words that is refreshingly calm and patient making you want to scream, "Take your time, girl!" You sense that she is not singing words, but experiences and the issues of her heart. Probably because she truly singing from the core of her heart. Born in Mississippi and raised in Dallas, Texas, Carmen's passion for singing began at the early age of four. As an adult, she began writing songs and her paths crossed with N'Dambi (a successful artist who sold over 100,000 copies worldwide.) N'Dambi was so impressed by Carmen's natural talent, that she invited Carmen to tour as a background vocalist.

After the tour, Carmen began hosting an open mic for poets and song writers at Sankofa Café, where artists like Floetry, N'Dambi, Kindred, and most often Erykah Badu graced the mic with their newest selections. The sultry songstress has pulled her rank among these talents as an artistic and accomplished singer/songwriter.

Carmen's music has become increasingly popular and as a result she made over 50 appearances in 2003 & 2004 alone. A portion of her popularity stems from her ability to captivate any audience. Her "sweet jazzy soul" sounds gently massages the ears of listeners with every lyric.

Currently, Carmen can also be heard on the "Hidden Hits" compilation album on Hidden Beach, "Soul Sophisticated" compilation album on the Compendia Music Group label. Carmen's music is currently available worldwide.

There are no mixing words on her album, Free, just 13 tracks of pure everyday emotions that are waiting on the rest of the world to play catch-up.     Girl, you are the ish! As soon as i got the cd, i copied it to my computer so that I would have some choice music to listen to. I loved it so much I had to share your cd with a few of my co-workers and we are all just jammin away! I especially like songs #1-5 & 7-13, thats dam near the entire cd! You go girl! A neo-soul artist w/ a beautifully subtle voice, soulful sound...(big ups to your producers!) and moving lyrics. What more can you ask for? Come from the underground Carmen, and make your people put you out there, we need more Neo-Soul talent out there! Thanks Caremn for the vibe....it is on time 4 real!

    I'm from Philly, I drove down to Atlanta Ga. to see my brother. We were shopping on Euclid st. and went into a store called Mood Music. Music was playing and the girl behind the register was scanning thru a CD, she let 10 seconds of the first seven songs play and I was falling in love with all 70 seconds of what I heard. I asked her who was that, she said," Carmen Rodgers". I replied," give it to me". She took the case off the shelf so I could read it. I told her, I don't think you understand, I am paying for this now". She said are you sure. I told her I heard enough. Three nights later on my 12 1/2 hr. ride back to Philly, I listened to it all the way. A masterpiece if ever I heard one. I look forward to listening to you for many years to come.

    I listen to internet radio while at work and I often don't see the title and artist name as I am doing other work; but each time I heard a song by Carmen I would stop to see who sung it because it sound so good. I went out at my lunch to attempt to purchase the cd only to find out it was never released in the states. We suck so I'm going to order it. I wish her the best I hope to hear more from her. Shay

    Very appealing to ear, very musical. Reminds me of Stevie Wonder's music a bit, especially "Morning". "Sea of Lovelessness" my favorite song off this cd, live instruments leading with that new school touch to it.     Carmen's voice is very simple, placed elegantly over the instrumentals. No vocal gymnastics, just heartfelt and truly artistic. She does not try to impress, she just shares her world like sitting on the front porch, swinging and sipping homemade lemonade on a late Sunday afternoon. Brilliant musicianship. Beautiful and clear tone. Tight vocals. My favorite right now although ALL the songs are great is "Hands of Time". This song, like so many on the CD, is God centered and reminded me of what's important after a tragic family loss. Peace and Blessing Carmen! Hats off to you.

If in the last month I have become a straight NEO-Soul Head. I came across a heart felt musical singer that has been sitting waiting on her day. The lady I speak of is one of passion and soul. Her name is “CAREM RODGERS”. CARMEN has the blue birds and the robins sitting in your window singing with her while the spring and summer breezes crosses your back while you lay and watch the sunset set with the one you love. NEO-Soul is more than just music it is the R&B of a new generation that was brought up and raised on the 70’s R&B. The CD “FREE” will have you playing the tracks over and over again while you work, while you clean the house, and while you are driving to St. Andrews Hall to see her open for great artist like Floetry, N’Dambi, Kindred and the remarkable Erykah Badu. One of the great collaborations of her time has been with her label mate GENO YOUNG. But her voice is mostly known for the soul that has been heard on the Hidden Beach Compilations of jazzed up Hip-Hop tracks. What ever you do it is worth the $16.99 that some places may charge you. Throughout the CD I have 3 songs that I would place into Heavy Rotation If I were a program manager at a radio station. The kutt’s are Track #2 “DREAM”; The title Track #9 “Free”; Track #10 “Hands of Time”; and my bonus kutt is Track #12 “Just Believe”. Carmen, I look forward to when all Neo-Soul lovers know your name like I have just learned.

    This year there have been 2 standout R&B albums- Carmen Rodgers & Bobby Valentino. Carmen's music is grown folks music. I've played this at my job and everybody raves about how listenable it is (and not just the browner folk.) I love a smooth album with beats that you can still nod to. "Try Again" is joint that you can chill to or parking lot pimp to. I also love "Free," the souled out remake of "...Touch You," & "Hands of Time." Carmen and her producer Geno Young have done wonderful jobs with their respective remakes of "...Touch You" and "Broadway," btw....Great minds think alike- about 2 months ago when a friend of mine with similar tastes came to me with a copy of a cd he said I had to hear with the words "Carmen- Free" written on it my mouth dropped open. I asked what her last name was and he said he didn't know, but when I said "Rodgers" he said that was it. I had just listened to the CD on CD Baby the week before and decided I was planning to get it. I bought it the next week. This is one of the best R&B albums you have never heard of- ever. Yes, ever. Perhpas only Eric Roberson's "The Vault Vol. 1" and Frankie's "My Heart Belongs To You" have been more slept on the last 10 years. This album is too good for some major label not to pick it up- or nowadays, maybe it is.

    I love this album! I was looking for some good new music and here I stumbled upon Carmen Rodgers. My only regret is that I didn't get it sooner. The album is mellow and stimulating at the same time. I have my favorites on the album but I never have to press the skip key because the album is still just that good. Beautiful voice strong, clear and mature and your delivery is unique,powerful, intense and passionate. The music lyrics and music is reflective of N'Dambi, Erykah Badu, Yahzarah, Lauryn Hill and the like....FABULOUS CD. I will be getting this cd this weekend! I think you have great vocal range and alot of people will be surprised by how well you hold notes. This give me the feeling of listening to Sade only it's not all monotone.
