notes
Guitarist Carl Burnett strips down to bare essentials in his new CD release, "Life Before MIDI: Naked". This jazz/rock/funk hybrid pulls you deeply into its sweaty and painfully honest embrace. The follow up to Burnett's previous CD "Life Before MIDI," builds on the same premise-that is, "no rehearsal, no MIDI programming, no click track - just 100% live jamming." Carl Burnett's raw guitar playing takes the airbrush out of music. The inspired end result is pure music at its most visceral.
The level and caliber of musicians playing on "Naked" will leave listeners begging for more. Special guests include guitarist Robben Ford, and saxaphonist Branford Marsalis. "Life Before MIDI: Naked" features top-notch players Wyzard, Reggie Hamilton and Tony Tino on Bass. Oscar Seaton, Curt Bisquera, Rocky Bryant and Tony Moore deliver heat on the drums. Deron Johnson's smoky keyboards round out this exquisite gem of a CD.
Burnett allows each performer to shine, and yet his presence is palpable. His heartbeat holds the music together, and radiates as a through-line for this largely improvisational journey. "Naked" spirals us into the soul of music - an exhilarating alchemy of inspired performers, playing from the very depths of their being.

Life before midi naked
author: A. L. RijbroekLiked this one athough his first release was a bit more balanced, somehow miss real surprizes on this record. Great guitar player however and leaves me with enough inspiration to play along with or just play it regularly to get inspired.
This is tasty with a capital T
author: Eddie RussellThis is tasty with a capital T.......and the natural jam came across as very real with that type of rare energy that makes you feel involved.
Imaginative, Intelligent & Inspiring.
author: Hoda Judah ArmaniOne of the highlights of my calendar year. This deftly composed & produced disquettte is a tour de force from Mr B's mastery. Sensatively performed this is an imaginative, intelligent & inspiring piece of work. If you don't own this CD I strongly urge you to aquire it & let it simmer in your player for a few days, then season well & cook!
you’ll love this jam-fest
author: J-SinIf you liked Carl Burnett’s previous album “Life Before Midi” as much as I did, then you’ll love this jam-fest. Not many artists can adequately pull this off. But he attempts to and succeeds on a huge level. Magically able to carve out enigmatic and nifty tunes that are deep in groove while being rich in momentum, Carl Burnett continues to be an artist that you really need to pay attention to.
Amazing guitar from Carl Burnett
author: "Upper Room with Joe Kelley & Gi Dussault" radio showGreat musicians are alive and well !!! From the start, Carl Burnett's "Life Before Midi: Naked" CD lets us know you are in for one top-notch rock-funk-blues extravagana. This incredible guitarist teams up with his past tourmates Branford Marsalis and Robben Ford on several tracks. Plus, he has assembled numerous players who are masters of their craft. I can't wait to see Carl Burnett and his musician friends in concert soon. We know they will leave the DATS to the neophytes and just play "Naked".
