Captain Dan and his Scurvy Crew have been sailing the coasts of Florida for over 10,000 days! We're REAL pirates, I tell ya. We'll swashbuckle you all with our phat rhymes! We have the real pirate hip hop. All hands on deck! The only rap crew with Buccaneer technique!

Captain Dan & the Scurvy Crew is the hip hop sideproject of Captain Dan, his first mate Sea Dawg , and beats made by Azis. The album covers all of the important aspects of pirate life, from looting to drinking to wenches to rum. Special guests on this album include MC Treasure, Scott Free, and cabin boy Phil.

    I'll admit that I'm not a huge fan of hip hop, but this album really drew me in. They use really catchy beats with some very funny lyrics that made me want to hear more. This is a very good album.

    I work with high school kids as a security guard and yesterday one of my kids started raping at me and I turned around and said. " Ya heard of Captain Hook, Davy Johns?     This is some great rap unlike most of the drivel out there - it has a tune, the words rhyme, and they're thematic and funny. If you like pirates, it's even better! Check out their 2nd CD too.

    I bought the second album first, and its still my fave but I'm glad I bought this one too! Cap' D's music has really evolved from one to the next, but the pirate spirit is the same and it friggin' rocks. Love My Cannon and Real Swashbucklers! I totally took this cd to the beach and played it really loud.

    Captain Dan and the Scurvy Crew have created something amazing with their "authentic pirate hip-hop". Though Johnny Depp was quoted in Rolling Stone magazine as saying pirates were "the rock stars of the eighteenth century" I think he was a bit off the mark. Pirates were more thuggish than any "rock star" ever was. They were the hard-drinking, gun-toting gangsta rappers of the 18th century. Captain Dan and the Scurvy Crew understand that notion. Their music creates a perfect juxtaposition between the golden age of piracy and the modern age of the gangsta. The beats are great, the lyrics have an intelligent They Might Be Giants-esque quality,(all the pirate slang and nautical terms are used accurately) and if that's not enough- many of the tracks are simply hilarious! Both of the Captain Dan and the Scurvy Crew CDs are money well spent! Buy them both! Then cruise around your neighborhood with your window down and your volume cranked, so you can share the phat beats with all your neighbors! Yarr!

    This. Is. Awesome. Cap'n Dan and his crew are competent, talented, and alarmingly witty musicians who have come up with the perfect response to gangsta rap- Pirate rap! All the same ideals and behavior, but 300 years earlier! ^_^

    If you're looking for traditional pirate sea shanties, look elsewhere. But if you're a badass scalliwag with a reckless disregard for tradition and a love of grillz and hos, then this is an album like no other! The lyrics are funny, but these lads also take their gangsta rap seriously. The beats are wonderful and each song is a gem. But be warned, the language is just as shockingly foul as the hip hop genre that inspired this album, so don't let you're dear old mom catch you with it!
