(CANDIDO CAMERO)
National Endowment for the Arts, Jazz Master Award, 2008.
Now 86, Candido is a musical giant hailed as one of the greatest Cuban percussionists to come to the United States. His musical gift is a powerful, driving force as he plays percussion with fingers that demonstrate technical ability with a love for music. Even when Candido performs alone on stage, the stage seems full.
Born in Havana, Cuba in 1921. Candido has played with more than one hundred great musicians such as: Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Tito Rodriguez, Marco Rizo, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Chico O’Farrill, Ray Charles, Mongo Santamaria, Tony Bennett, La Lupe, Ray Mantilla, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Frank Sinatra, Celia Cruz, Xiomara Laugart, Paquito D’Rivera, Machito, Lecuona, Bobby Sanabria, Manuel Valera, David Oquendo and John Coltrane, amongst several of the most popular musicians of United States, Cuba, Latin America and the world.
Candido Hands of Fire, a documentary by Ivan Acosta, tells all the interesting stories about the life of this legendary Cuban American artist.
Candido is one of the very few living testimony to the history of Cuban music and modern jazz. He is the only Afro Cuban Jazz percussionist that appears in The World Book Encyclopedia.
Candido Hands of Fire,. A live recording CD will be available to the public by the end of 2007.

Candido Camero Hands Of Fire
author: Steve DeatsThe master has done it again. Candido proves again and again that he is an amazing percussionist and this CD is no exception. The band is kicking and Candido's solos blow me away.
