Electric guitar driven instrumentals

notes

Cam MacInnes was born in Winnipeg and spent his teen years in Edmonton. After coming to Toronto, he became a respected player with performance experiences in England, United States and across Canada. He has worked with a wide variety of artists such as Drastic Measures, Perfect World, Melody Ranch, Melanie Doane, Mary Jo Eustace, Besharah, Linda Maruta, Gayle Ackroyd, Greg Quill, Ana Mulrooney to name just a few and currently Bill Colgate and the Urbane Guerillas. Album, TV, feature films and radio credits are also some of his accomplishments.

His other loves are his Triumph Bonneville T100 and dogs. When not riding or performing, he will be found in his home studio in South Riverdale, where he lives with his wife and three rescued Airedale Terriers.

Mushroom Dirt is Cam’s answer to what he says is missing in contemporary music today. “I love the instrumentals of the 50’s and 60’s that featured electric guitar as the voice of the melody. I was trying to create something along that line but with more of today’s sounds and production techniques.” Cam explained. ‘Lancelot and Clarabelle’ with its heart wrenching slide guitar is an example which is comparable to the dynamic of one of the best known guitar instrumentals of the late 50’s, ‘Sleepwalk’ by Santos and Johnny Farina.

Cam MacInnes can be seen performing in Toronto venues such as The Dominion on Queen, The Gladstone Hotel and at this summer’s City Roots Festival held at The Distillery District in June. For further info go to http://www.myspace.com/cammacinnes

  • Mushroom Dirt
    author: Ken Wilson

I had my initial pleasure of meeting Cam while he and I were in our early/mid teens in Edmonton. At that time, there was something about Cam's playing that made pick my ears up and listen. After not hearing a note from Cam in nearly four decades it is fulfilling to know my instincts were right. Mushroom Dirt is everything it should be. Throughout, the recording displays Cam's mastery of and devotion to his chosen instrument. When sharing it with friends common terms have been space, time and emotion. I highly recommend the aural delights this offering gives us. His use of time, space and colour is a wonderful glimpse into the magic of his sounds. I look forward hungrily to his next set of works.
