CHAMPAIGN – Staff Sgt. Sean Caddy doesn't waste his free time while serving in Iraq.
The Champaign native has written a novel, "9 Deceiving Faces," and created a hip-hop album with military overtones. He's trying to market them both, which isn't easy for a guy who has six months to go in Iraq
Caddy, 29, who served in Kuwait after joining the Army in 1999, is now in the reserves.
His real name is Sean Linzy. The author listed on his novel is S. Andrew Linzy, and the main character is FBI Special Agent Sean Michaels.
And the DVD is titled "Cadillac Jumpin' 2007."
As the book's ebookmall.com page tells it, the mystery describes:
"June 6th 2009 in the world of deceiving faces, friends become enemies. Enemies become friends and revenge can strike in the most gruesome way. Deep in the shadows, truth is not often seen with the eyes. It is only through betrayal and manipulation reveals that ultimate double crossing."
Caddy also has a sort of best-of called "A Day in The Life ..." which features military-tinged songs like "Enter Da Soldier," "Camouflage Infantry" and "International Girls," available at cdbaby.com.
Caddy got into hip-hop in 1995 when he was sort of a roadie for his cousins, who had a rap group named the B210 Clique.
Over the years, wherever he's been stationed, Caddy has returned to Champaign as his home base.
"I learned to be intergalactic," he says.
Between Army Reserve engagements, Caddy was a staff member for MTV's "Music in High Definition" and has assisted in sound production, lighting and stagings for such artists as Cheyenne Kimball, Gary Alan, Dashboard Confessional and the Goo Goo Dolls.
Last week, he was here to see family and promote his creations, documenting the events on digital video.
His "9 Deceiving Faces," subtitled "Da Testimony of Christon M. Larson," is published by iUniverse and available at local bookstores as well as amazon.com.
Some of the DVD cuts can also be seen at youtube.com, he added.
