notes
Johnette Napolitano (lead singer/writer/bassist for the acclaimed L.A. band Concrete Blonde) and Buzz Gamble (local legend/ex con/dirty white blues singer)
both residents of the Mojave desert and who both currently owe on their bartabs at the local roadhouse, Pappy & Harriet's Pioneertown Palace, duet on the Rick Derringer/Johnny Winter blues-rock classic 'Cheap Tequila'. Johnette's haunting vocals and Buzz' booze-ravaged gravelly growl are a perfect, if unexpected, match.
With Concrete Blonde's Jim Mankey on bass and ace local musicians Steve Gardner on drums and Doug Anderson on guitar and organ, the coming together of these two desert dwellers as well as the recent celebration of the music of late 70's local legend Gram Parsons and talented
young desert debutantes Gram Rabbit may mean the Mojave is a place to watch for a new wave of American music and art.
Recorded at the well known Joshua Tree studio Rancho de la Luna, Johnette & Buzz drink, learn the words, drink, sing about pains and heartaches and worn out dreams and washed up schemes and
"drink up and be happy'
live just for today
drown in cheap tequila
and flush youself away"
...somebody get me a lime.

Leaves you wanting more, much like Cheap Tequila
author: JakeThis is once nice track if you like a raw smokey kind of vocal. I have to warn though it leaves you wanting more, much like Cheap Tequila.
Johnette and Buzz are a perfect example of a great collaboration.
author: Mr. DudleyCheat Tequila was the perfect song for Johnette and Buzz. Great vocals by both of course. I only wish they could of recorded an entire album. They were on to something special. Maybe there are some lost tracks. A++
Great
author: Philip - Las VegasGreat single by a powerhouse of a duo!
and it's for a good cause...
author: Carlaaccording to the official concrete blonde website, all proceeds from this CDs sales go to Hurricane Katrina Flood Relief.
Powerful And Real
author: Mike WilkinsonThis disc is short! That is the only bad thing I can say about this single. This is one of the most touching and real duets I have ever heard. You actually feel the honesty that this track contains and the power that these two voices have together is nothing to be taken lightly.
Essential to the story ...
author: Shawn MafiaFilled with pathos and almost premonitory in relation to how closely this preceeded Buzz's death. One can no longer deny the assertion that Buzz Gamble was one of the greats and lived it as tough as he sung it. Johnette's vocal and arrangement are the perfect compliment. There's much more involved here then a simple song. This CD has captured an important moment in time, between two extraordinary individuals, that has suddenly and sadly passed.
Don't have it yet
author: Calls HimJ.'s music will always amase me and I'm Native American and also a recording artist J. gave me insperation to play my music hang in their J.I'm with you in spirit always.
johnette is god
author: jeffeverything the woman does is awesome..you need this and everything else she has ever done..so buy it now and everything else you dont have of hers...
Johnette is worth 12.95 a song anytime!
author: Barbara MannsGreat song! I wouldn't worry about the price, though. When you're not a sellout, you have to charge a little more to get by! I continue to be impressed by Johnette and Jim Mankey. Concrete Blonde is one of the best bands of their time--hands down. The members deserve to be far more wealthy than they probably are right now. There is no accounting for the poor taste and judgement of Americans--they just re-elected Bush, afterall. I will continue to support this band and Johnette however I can!
Great Single!
author: RebikGreat song with sticker shock! I was so excited to see something from Johnette that I didn't have, that I clicked and bought the CD without even noticing it was only one song, even though the price is that of an entire album. So, if you like Johnette (or Buzz) and want this song, be aware it's a single, not an album.
