notes
Mason Runs Through, Jr. of the Assiniboine tribe was born in Wolf Point, Montana, on the Fort Peck Reservation. He became interested music at an early age and taught himself to play guitar by listening to the radio and his uncle's 45s. By the time he was in high school, he had created his first band, Blue Dezire. Blue Dezire was an all native band that played top forty and oldies covers in bars and at local festivals and events. Mason and his band gained enough exposure to be featured on a television program entitled, Indian Country.
Mason began singing with the pow wow group, Eagle Hawk Singers. He followed the pow wow circuit with Eagle Hawk Singers for four years until he and his family relocated to Utah. He found an eager market for Native American Music, both traditional and contemporary.
Mason soon tired of covering what he saw as a limited supply of Native American Contemporary music, and he began writing his own music. Telling of his own life experiences and the stories told by his ancestor's. Influenced heavily by his families traditional ways taught to him by his Grandmother.
Mason has performed his original music at First Night celebrations, Whispers in the Canyon (a Native American Music Festival in Zion National Park) and at Native American Music Festival's. Mason's recordings have been played on the national version of Native Sounds, Native Voices on AIROS as well as on local radio programs such as The Drum on KZUM in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Mason has been singing under the name Buck Native for the past five years.
