notes
"Brubaker clearly knows what he's doing, filling this album with tuneful and thought provoking songs. Tracks like 'The Conveyor Belt and 'Hold Back The Rain' have abundant power pop energy, while 'The Hard Way' and 'Spacewalking' are more pensive, and the imaginatively arranged 'Coincide' is a successful attempt at Burt Bacharach-like sophistocation." -Jay Lustig, Pop Music Critic, The Newark Star-Ledger
"...and the pursuit of happiness is a solid collection of power pop tunes by a versatile stylish musician." - Laura Turner Lynch, Kweevak.com
"Brubaker has managed to amass a loyal college age following for his pop/rock mastery. Think the Barenaked Ladies met Elvis Costello who met They Might Be Giants and they all got drunk with Weezer. It's infectious pop/rock in all its glory." - Evan Toth, WFDU, Fairleigh-Dickenson University
At a benefit concert at Fordham University, Natalie Merchant pulled him on stage to share a vocal.
Now Paul Brubaker has a stage of his own to showcase his own brand of intellectual pop-rock.
His backhandedly romantic style gives a nod to Ben Folds, Weezer, and Elvis Costello. But don't write Brubaker off as an inmitator though. His unique tunes have been featured in three BMI showcases, and two NACA showcases.

Heads up, Joe Jackson fans!
author: Ross RubinSounds like late Joe Jackson; rocks like early Joe Jackson, but with a richer sound.
Masterful and melodic songwriting with enough ear candy for a long sugar buzz!
author: MentalminstrelBrubaker's songwriting mastery is evident in the opening guitar riff of Miserable princess. With Shakespeare-like wit and "The Princess Bride" romantic humor Paul's songs will challenge you to keep a smirk from rising in the corners of your mouth. This is power-pop songwriting in the purest and most honest form with enough ear candy for a long and pleasurable sugar buzz. Excellent work! Highly recommended!
Energetic and edgy!
author: Laura T. Lynch, Kweevak.comBrubaker is joined by other talented Jersey artists to create an impressive ten track CD. and the pursuit of happiness is a fine contemporary rock collection with plenty of percussion and other great sounds such as the tenor sax, the soprano sax, trumpet, flugelhorn and string instruments. Paul's style has aptly been described as Barenaked Ladies meets Elvis Costello with a dash of Weezer and Fuel. Brubaker's music is energetic, edgy and has a soft alternative flair. Paul writes intelligent well-constructed songs about life's thorny issues. His music has catchy hook lines, impressive guitar chords and polished production. Paul sings with emotion and his vocals are warm with smooth edges. The opening track 'Miserable Princess' captures all of these elements and showcases Paul's thought provoking lyrics. 'That's What I Want' starts off slow and reflective moving into a funky beat and subtle guitar work that flows into a cool jazz grove. The song ebbs and flows under interesting bridge changes and intriguing instrumentation. It is followed by 'Elaine' another catchy tune with blissful bass lines, solid fretwork and demonstrative vocals.
Great CD! Can't stop playing it.
author: Dave & KerriIf you're in the mood to buy a CD, this is the one to buy. It’s not often I buy a CD where I like every song, but this one delivers with a good mix of songs that rock and slower songs with strong melodies that you can’t help but sing along to. Hit songs (the fast ones): Miserable Princess, Conveyor Belt, Hold Back the Rain (great song!), and Elaine. Other hits (the slower ones): That’s What I Want (great brass section), The Hard Way (can’t help but sing along), and Spacewalking. Great job Paul!
