notes

Angie Browning has a voice of crystal purity and a style that holds nothing back. Since joining up with fellow Ballarat musician Geoff McArthur some years ago, the pair have helped each other write songs with a simple but powerful beauty. Joined now by a band of players who know how to back this music another layer has been added to the intimacy and grace of her performance.

Angie Browning & Geoff McArthur – Update

Geoff McArthur wins National Songwriting Award.

“You’ve Just No Idea” a song from Angie & Geoff’s current CD release “Sweet Sad Songs” was awarded “Best Ballad” in the Australian Songwriter’s Association 27th National Awards this week.

The pair performed the song, written by Geoff, at a gala awards night in Sydney on August 30 before an large audience of performers, songwriters and music industry representatives. In addition to being presented with the award for Best Ballad, Geoff was also nominated as a finalist in the Australian Songwriter of the Year on the basis of this song and “Hurried Goodbyes” which was also placed 5th in the Ballad Category. Judged in 11 Categories the ASA National Awards received over 2000 entries this year.

Geoff and Angie, both from Ballarat, Victoria both took up songwriting only in the last 3 years after performing covers and traditional music together and in other bands for some years. Geoff explained that it was the most important decision they had made as performers.
“To have now created a repertoire of our own songs, based on our own experiences and having people listen and respond to them is so rewarding. Having my songs recognized through the ASA Awards has been an amazing experience and given me further confidence and inspiration to keep writing”

Both Award-winning songs are on “Sweet Sad Songs” along with other songs written by both Angie and Geoff.
