notes

The Browne Sisters and George Cavanaugh are one of the most popular music groups to perform in the western United States. Their silvery harmonies, beautiful arrangements, and entertaining personalities have created a permanently loyal and enthusiastic following, from their fellow Americans to homegrown Scots and Irish.

Diane, Pamela, and Laura's lead vocals and haunting harmonies are enriched by cousin George's rich, unaffected voice and original guitar style. The addition of Scotland's own John Allan on electric and acoustic guitar has also allowed the group to move in the direction of their own-still-easy-on-the-ears version of Celtic rock. This combined with their perennially popular arrangements of traditional and modern Gaelic songs, Scottish and Irish selections as well as original material, gives them a range of appeal and artistic expression unique in the world of Celtic entertainment.

The Browne Sisters & George Cavanaugh have opened for acts such as Andy M. Stewart and shared the stage wth the likes of Seven Nations, Men of Worth, Clandestine, Alex Beaton, Alasdair Fraser and Seamus Kennedy. They have been received enthusiastically for many years at Burn's Night, St. Paddy's Days, college campuses, and major games and festivals across the United States.

They have five albums: SILVER DARLINGS, CASTLE DANGEROUS, WEST OF HOME, CHRISTMAS TRAVELERS, and BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE. They are currently working on their sixth album titled READY FOR THE STORM and expect it to be available at the end of 2003. They have also been featured on other artists' recordings such as Alex Beaton's IN THE SCOTTISH TRADITION, IRISH MARY, and KIDDING AROUND.

The group can also be heard on radio staions in the U.S., the Canadian Broadcasting Company, the British Broadcasting Company, and Scotland's Radio Caithness.

"Silver Darlings" is definitely the gift that keeps on giving! Whether it's the plaintive "Wae's Me for Prince Charlie," the lively "Tell Me Ma," the "Star of the County Down," or the title song "Silver Darlings," I promise the listener will be enchanted. The Browne Sisters and George Cavanaugh make beautiful, beautiful music together.

I had purchased a tape of this album a few years ago, and it finally wore out, so I just purchased the CD. I like the music so well that I just ordered the other 3 albums that are available without even sampling the songs. Their voices are beautiful.

  • I love this album--I bought it years ago when it was on tape

This CD is wonderful--I purchased it years ago after seeing the Brownes and George at a Scottish festival. My young daughter learned all the words to Star of the County Down and is now 13--she sings it to her new baby brother. The music is varied and very relaxing, a good sampling of what this talented group can do. I recommend it highly!

  • A wonderful album!

I am really enjoying these performances by this fun, family group. I heard the title song live at the Pleasanton Highland Games this year, and that sold me on the CD. There is a fine song selection and helpful liner notes. I love "Silver Darlings", but my current favorite is "Wae’s Me for Prince Charlie", which they also sing so beautifully.

  • I love this album.

I went and saw the Brown sisters and George Cavanagh at a Scotish games Festival in Dixon. They were so great. They knew their song order and all. The also were very friendly and kind to those of us who were new or old fans of them. Their music with the smooth gaelic and english is new and for me very enjoyable. I hope to see them again though i am not sure I will. The are the group that mead me remember that the Irish, Scotish, and Welsh used to have a completely different language from English. I enjoy them thoroughly and I am going to sing there Island Spinning Song for my school for there Multi-cultural event in September. So this is to me a very special album

Awesome CD...I just love their sound! Wonderful CD

  • When they are good they are very very good

The only thing that prevents me from giving these guys a full five stars is the feeling that they aren't making full use of their unique sound. They might do better to do more a capella since it is the voice sound that makes this so wonderful. My favorite was the "Silver Darlings".
