BROWN
1993. A time of the great funk depression, of grunge and the philosophy of me, myself and I. When self loathing creatures sought to do their bitching and moaning by abusing the nature and beauty of music - Brown was born. Brown, The United Brotherhood of Sunshine and Positivity, Leaders of the New Underground Funk Revolution, began bustin' through all the confusion.

In a passionate effort to save the funk from it's fateful foe, the people of pop; Chris Masi, band leader and founder, set out to put together a band of players who's common goal was to infect society with the positive influence and vibrations of the Funk: a better way of life through music - and he succeeded.

Brown is a musical experience that combines strong songwriting with unforgettable hooks cleverly placed over a powerful rhythmic force. Within it's songs, the band successfully meshes old-school organic sounds with an original vibe, ultimately creating their own pulse.

Brown is fronted and conducted by the multi-talented Chris "funkhustler" Masi on guitar, ld vocals and keys. Bringing gritty co-lead and backing vocals, Masi's right hand man, Matt "murry g. blage" Kabbel delivers latin/afro cuban influenced percussion and is masterfully paired with Justin "cousin" Kabbel on vocals and percussion. Ryan "thompavelli" Thompson's super-deep bass synchs up with John "black jimmy" Michail on drums, vocals, screams, grunts and the strong everlasting stank fatback of the blak-oom blak-oom. Delivering the punch and rhythmic stabs, Brown's sound is rounded out to a perfect curve with the solid tenor saxophone of Andy "b.a." Citkowicz and Tom "smooth" Phillips in the pocket alto saxophone.

With this unique blend, Brown delivers a mixture of tight, funky arrangements and while allowing plenty of room for the musicians to step out and improvise, they still retain the strongest foundation, the song.

This cd is terrific. If you need an end to a harshed mellow just slip it in and smile! It's really that good - and so are their live shows!

A true journey, turn the house lights down, starts of will a little poetry, and moves in to some dirty funk and smooth sounds. If you like brown in concert, you'll love them on cd.
