What is What - Brother Elixir

broth·er- family, male, soul brother, kindred.
elix·ir-a potion, concoction or mixture made to prolong or sustain life, alter moods.

Who is Brother Elixir?

Brother Elixir is drummer and guitarist Al Jarvis playing his own brand of Indiana Heirloom rock and roll. Al Jarvis played with NYC/CBGB's punk rock legend Cheetah Chrome from the Dead Boys. He was founding member of the riot inciting punk rock combo PitBulls on Crack. Al Jarvis has toured the states and the U.K. with many different talented musical artists.

"I've seen Keith Moon, Tommy, Richie and Markie Ramone and Bill Stephenson. I've played with Dusty Watson,Hugh O'Neill and Lurch Nobody. In other words-I know a good drummer when I see one. Al Jarvis isn't just good-he's great. He doesn't sit back and play-he's part of the band."
Joe Queer - (The Queers)

Hailing from the sleepy little Midwestern town known as Bloomington, Indiana, Brother Elixir is a confluence of two great American forces,
rock and roll!

Groove based Heavy American Blues influenced garage rawk and roar. Take Jon Spencer, Fu Manchu, Muddy Waters, J. Geils and MC5 meld them into one, if possible. Lots of rollicking, rocking drum beats, riffy guitars and gritty harmonica. Catchy, driving 2 and 3 minute songs that stick in your head long after they are done.

"Once again Al Jarvis and the gang prove that real rock and roll comes from the heart, you've gotta chance it."

Paul - Z (Zero Boys)

Al Jarvis has enlisted his brother Greg to fuel the combo, hence the moniker Brother Elixir with his Memphis blues harp stylings. Greg met "Shaky" Horton on a bus ride from Chicago during his teens. Shaky tutored him on the harp and left an indelible musical impression. Also appearing on the record is Grammy nominated guitarist Frankie Camaro for his work from " Big Guitars From Texas " as well as Gretchen Holtz from The Smears.

This is damn rockin´ and rollin´ stuff with catchy melodies, awesome guitar-playing and pushing harmonica. A great album with 15 ear candies

  • This mother rocks.
author: Jack Rabid - Big Takeover Magazine

This is loud and harsh like Rocket From The Tombs or 1973 Stooges, with hot New York Dolls/JImmy Reed harmonica and suprising James Williamson-esque blues punk guitar leads that stand out. This is down and dirty, filthy, but well played rock the way you like it ...this mother rocks

  • These songs knocked me on my ass!
    author: The Ryder Magazine

These tracks pay homage to the rich traditions of the blues and R&B, while still exploring new terrain. A portent of impressive things to come.
