A funky blend of blues, pop and rock from the Twin Cities

notes

Defined by searing guitar licks, solid drum grooves, thunderous bass lines, witty lyrics and memorable pop hooks, the Brother Big Bad sound is at once unique and interesting. Their influences are as far reaching as their ambition- including such diverse acts as: Maroon 5, Dave Matthews Band, Led Zeppelin, John Mayer, Weezer, James Brown, Ben Folds, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Barenaked Ladies.

BBB is driven by the creative forces of guitarist/singer D.J. Phillips, bassist/singer Andy Carroll and drummer Matt Weaver. Their past experiences include having an original song in the top 25 on the CMJ charts, opening for national touring act Jump Little Children in Nashville, Tennessee, participating in the Cabo Wabo Battle of the Bands at the Hard Rock Cafe in Memphis, Tennessee and being invited to perform at the Midpoint Music Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio. The members of Brother Big Bad have also the unique privilege of performing in theatrical venues nationwide in such productions as: The Lovely Liebowitz Sisters, Schoolhouse Rock Live!, The Medora Musical, Honky Tonk Angels, Beehive, A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline, Hank and My Honky Tonk Heroes and Tony and Tina’s Wedding.

The band members are working together through refreshingly upbeat and musically explosive live shows to carve their own niche in Minnesota and beyond.

  • A superb blend of musical styles.
    author: Blues Bunny

At only 6 tracks long, this may not be big – but it’s certainly clever. With all songs written by members of the band and backed by some solid percussion, the liberal application of an upright base and some excellent guitar riffs, this 3-piece band from Minnesota certainly knows how to put a good song together, and undoubtedly are capable of a blend of musical styles beyond most. With no padding this is strongly recommended.

  • No matter what your age, these guys are great!

If you are looking for something refreshingly new for your CD collection this is it. It doesn't matter what style of music you think you are into. These guys have hit on an essence of rock and roll that I haven't enjoyed since the latter days of the Beatles.

  • Short, funky, and oh so sweet
    author: David

Within the first few chords of this CD, you have a feeling that you are in for a funky musical experience. And the following songs live up to this preview. This CD is well-composed and immanently enjoyable.

  • BEST BROTHER BIG BAD CD YET!!!
    author: Richard Hayden

At first glance I thought BBB was one of those bands trying to make it big solely on their good looks, cute smiles and hairless bodies. HOWEVER, THIS CD OPENED MY EARS TO A WHOLE NEW WORLD(in a magic carpet sort of way). Not only is each song distinct stylistically, but the lyrics are poignant and prophetic. Only Lead Singer Damon Jerome (DJ) can reveal that all men get their sweet lines from movies and SNL skits in such a catchy and meaningful song. The photo of them wearing nothing but oversized cowboy hats and chaps on the inside perfects the BBB experience. BROTHER BIG BAD, Roll On.

  • Probably the greatest new CD of the summer...
    author: Ryan Damlo

From track 1 to 6, these guys keep you moving and loving every second of it. The songs each carry their own unique sound and flair, and show how much talent is in this CD. Definitely worth the money, and I can't wait for the next CD.
