(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

From South Carolina to NYC and then to Austin, Brian Keane brings real roots and soul to americana. People who get bored by singer-songwriter records tend to dig this one, including a Tom Waits cover...

notes

NYC didn't take the country out of Brian Keane. Moving there from his home in South Carolina only pushed him to Austin, TX, where he currently resides. Cutting a soulful line between Country, Folk, and R&B, his heartfelt vocal delivery and real life songwriting make Brian stand head and shoulders above the typical "singwriter". This is a record that most people don't take out of the CD player for a couple of weeks. Here's what critics have been saying about the record:

"Quite Amazing..."
-- John Aielli, Eklektikos, KUT-Austin

"'I Ain't Even Lonely' sounds as if Keane played it in his head for years before finally laying it down. There's just such an easy grace at work here. May Mr. Keane make many more..."
-- Michael Corcoran... XLent Magazine

"... the musical sophistication of a Lyle Lovett, and like the kinky-haired Texas stylist, Keane moves easily from pop to folk to blues to honky-tonk... watch out for this guy."
-- William Michael Smith, Texas Music Magazine

"Keane sounds relaxed and at ease; the whole thing has a conversational feel, with smart, peculiar little jokes here and there recalling both Lyle Lovett and Paul Simon at times."
-- Houston Press

"Keane has an astute pallet for melody that likens him to alt. country favorites like Jerry Jeff Walker and Chris Knight."
-- American Songwriter Magazine

"It's one of the best out of Texas by a new singer/songwriter."
-- David Brown, KUT

"Going into it I knew it was his first studio record, and I remember my first reaction being Holy Heck this is just a perfect play from beginning to end and how do you do that your first time in the studio."
-- Dante Dominick, Rockzillaworld

"An uncomfortably good songwriter."
-- Jon Dee Graham

  • Very Enjoyable!!!

Saw Brian Keane at Gruene Hall on 11/4/06 for the first time and enjoyed the show so much that we bought the CD. The more I listen to it, the more I like it. I like the intellectual play on words, almost like an inside joke amongst friend or those in the know. I especially enjoy "I Miss You" and "Your Whining Will Be Gone", but the whole CD is great! I found a new artist and that's always exciting!

  • Running the gamut of the love experience

I Ain't Even Lonely is so chock full of quality, it makes you wonder just how much more Mr. Keane has tucked up under his sleeve. Though I file the entire album under "Incessant Listening", I give special mention to tracks 3 and 9. With these tracks Mr. Keane hits the heights, seeks out the depths, well and truly shines, and covers everything in between while we're not looking. A truly remarkable album given its relative lack of widespread acclaim.

We ran across Mr. Keane at the Gruene Hall in Texas quite by accindent. Bought the CD, loved it! Lost it and was very upset so needed to find another. Thank heavens for CD Baby since the local store did not carry. This is a wonderfull CD, not the run of the mill modern country sound. I will try to keep this one around a long time.

  • Fun amd Good

Never to serious, never to tear in my beer, this album takes everyday life and makes it poetic in that way country music can only do. With other influences from blues and classic lit this well rounded album is a pleasure to listen to and sing along with.

  • Awesome!

From the music (guitar picking, piano solos, slide guitar, perfect back-ups)... to the lyrics (at times heart-wrenching and profound; at times funny)... to the smoothe emotion-filled vocals... this cd is great!!! Every song has a different sound which shows the versatility and special talent this musician singer/songwriter has. I find myself waking up with the tunes in my head and then humming or singing them to myself (and everyone else) all day long.

  • Fantastic!

Every song was absolutely great. Wonderful lyrics kept me all the way!

  • Music, voice, and lyrics all fantastic
    author: J Howe

An amazing, complete album with insight, soul, pain, spite, and humor. The music and voice of Mr. Keane are old school kick-ass. You can hear a lot of great musicians in there, but the composition and lyrics stand tall on their own. I play this album for everyone, and everyone loves it. Can't wait for the next one.
