notes
"Hard to imagine this is one man playing one instrument: the electric six string bass. Wires' playing is seamless and seemingly boundless and his virtuoso playing and deep sentiment run through all the selections of which four of the seven are original..." - the Victory Review, June 2002
"When The Drums Stop" defies what one would expect from a solo bass performance. Brendan paints a warm landscape of familiar melodies and reaching improvisations that keep listeners on the edge of their seat. After many years of showcasing for bands and combos, Brendan turns his energy towards solo bass performances. "When The Drums Stop" is his first recording as a bass soloist.
"For me this recording was about space," Brendan recalls. "Giving the space between the notes equal consideration. Space, and allowing the music to come first. I didn't want to over play, or over-arrange. It's a simple reflection of where I was on the day I played the music."
All of the tracks on the CD are solo bass and were recorded with one take, with no overdubs, or editing.

Smooth & flawless
author: Unlucky LukeVery melodic album, nice sound. The cover of With or Without You is just great... This CD could be a nice introduction to tapping for people who just thing it's nothing but another flashy technique without any kind of musicality whatsoever; Brendan's songs are smooth & flawless!?!
Beautiful. Haunting. Soulful.
author: Tracy FunderburkBrendan Wires has turned his and other artists' melodies into deep, soulful bass lullabies.
Bass two-hand tapping virtuosity
author: Mike WoinoskiBrendan Wires takes the two-hand tapping technique on the electric bass to a remarkable new level on this album. As a bass player, I am amazed by what Brendan can do with the instrument. And my wife, who is not impressed by mere monster chops, also loves this disc. Truly inspiring.
Brendon Wires, the Artist who "molds a new reality"
author: Chet WilsonIn the words of Geddy Lee this CD found its way "closer to the heart," of this bass enthusiast. One who appreciates the low sustaining and vibrating tones of a Tobias bass played masterfully and like a classical guitar will experience a sound that relaxes and refreshes the mind and spirit. Incorporating U2's "With or Without You" as a bass solo gives a familiarity to the CD that will identify with any U2 fan or bass enthusiast. This CD stands alone as truly a great work of artistry in skill and song writing. You will want to listen to it over and over.
