Bright Red Boots are vocals, two guitars, a djembe, a washboard, a cello, maracas, a trombone, claves, cymbal and a spicy tuba. Members Emily Davis, Vince Ricci, George Henik and Alexandra Devin unite diverse musical influences and backgrounds into a quirky and tasty musical sandwich. They melodically run the gamut from pop to folk to country to old time to rock to blues and back again. This eclectic quartet makes a fun meal at the Alterna-Folk-Pop buffet.

Member Bios:
Emily Davis was born and raised in Charlottesville, Virginia. She started playing guitar and writing songs at age 17 and went public several years later. Influences include ani difranco, Elvis Costello, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, xtc, Suzanne Vega, Louis Jordan, Billy Bragg, Indigo Girls, Rhett Miller and Ella Fitzgerald. She founded and runs Messenger Theatre Company (http://www.messengertheatreco.org) You can find her playing solo at http://www.myspace.com/emilysexperiments. Her middle name is Rainbow. Really.
Alexandra Devin (Lexie)has played percussion since the fifth grade in addition to being an actress and writer.
She has acted in Paris, New York, and Pennsylvania.
Her plays have been produced in various black-box venues around NYC, and her novel is available through xlibris.com as well as websites for Barnes & Noble, Borders, and Amazon. She is a member of the Dramatists Guild, the Illyria Theatre, and the 42nd St. Workshop. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1998 and joined Bright Red Boots in February of 2000 after an impromptu washboard performance.
George Henik grew up in Setauket, NY on Long Island.
He has just completed his first year as a doctoral student at NYU in Educational Communications and Technology, hoping to one day teach instructional technology and develop educational math and music software at a university. He started playing on tuba (orchestral and jazz) in elementary school, but recently has learned other instruments. The summer before joining Boots (1999) he went to Italy, bought a cello, and the rest is history. He has taught math, recorded for local bands, played tuba in John Cusack's Serendipity, and is currently a web designer for a variety of sites including NYU.
Vince Ricci hails from the San Francisco Bay Area and lived and worked in New Orleans for five years, where he taught history, theatre and guitar and directed a non-profit Summerbridge program. He has been playing guitar and bass since he was ten years old.
Early musical influences include Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, and Leo Kottke. His soul was subsequently invaded by the likes of Lou Reed, Jaco Pastorius and Charles Mingus. He is proud to be a little bit country.

wonderful stuff

Oh so very fun
author: Daniel O'MearaI purchased this CD based on the samples here on CDBaby and boy am I happy I did. This is extremely enjoyable music that sounds like not much else I have heard. The use of tuba/trombone on select tracks is brilliant. It does not seem forced at all and at times, just seems like a fuller sounding bass guitar. However, on songs like the phenomenal I Need, I Want, I Crave, the tuba is a vital part of the sound. I highly recommend this CD to anyone looking for happy music.
Can't wait for the next one!
author: TyI purchased this CD over a year ago and It has only left my changer once (for a Christmas party). It is simply fun fun fun. The lyics are smart, the sound is totally unique, the instrumentation continues to surprise me, and the vocals... the best you can find! These guys n gals have got it. Get this CD so you can say... "I was listening to EARLY B.R.B." Because they are destined for greatness.
fun, thoughtful and very memorable
author: Jason GodbeyI listened to this CD three times when I first got it. I played it the first time and immediately hit play again and listened to it 2 more times. It's that good. The music moved me and the lyrics spoke to me. It's the best 10 bucks I've ever spent on music.
catchy lyrics, tunes and beat, fun listening

Inventive, catchy, unique sound, a welcome style of music
author: OsiI really enjoyed the CD. It is inventive and the songs are catchy. This band not only is pushing the envelope with the combination of instruments used, but also add a unique style that is highly enjoyable and fun to listen too. Truely a welcome change to my listening pleasure.
melodic guitar riffs and soaring singing; a solid work of art

Alex Davisthis is defintely not your average singer/songwriter/band. unlike a lot of singers who produce albums self-titled, this is a whole ensemble work. although davis' voluptuos vocals shine as the true center of the cd, the other parts work well. guitar, rythm and of course tuba.. the guitar pickin's are well thought out and complex, especially on "the day between the kings"(is that the right name of the song??)tuba and cello is nice tho' a bit overbearing at times. on the opposit I craved more from percussion.. more agressiveness or something. still all in all this album is a gem. from the gorgeous singing and lyrics to the quirky touch, I highly recommend it to any musical epicurist.
