Over the course of any mans life, there are paths to be taken some that are obvious and some that appear out of the blue. There are paths that look enticing and some that look dangerous. And then, ultimately, there is the path that a man takes. For better or worse, a mans character is determined by that choice. Few are the ones that realize the varieties of existence; even fewer are the ones that can report his experiences with a balance of wisdom and humility. Brandon Reid has been down a path or two in his time and with the release of Man Born Blind he lets listeners in on the lessons that he”s learned with a blend of honesty and earnestness that is sure to catch some off guard.
After a decade or so of searching, Brandon Reid sat down with an acoustic guitar and a handful of ideas that became the independently released debut, Empty Chair. The album touched thousands upon its release in 2004 and seven songs climbed into the Top Ten on various charts and four of them went all the way to number one.
The success of Empty Chair peaked when Brandon was named the Breakout Artist of the Year. It was quite a year. It all happened in such a short period of time, he reports. It all started with radio, some of the songs started to chart, then people bought the record and before I knew it I was winning the award at the ACM Awards.
I was floored. At first, I thought they made a mistake, he continues with a laugh. I did, It just blew my mind, but some things are'nt meant to be figured out.
Not only did he win the ACM Awards but he went on to receive other awards as well such as being home the Male Vocalist of the Year Award and Songwriter of the Year Nomination at the Los Angles Music Awards and Song of the Year at the Paramount Music Awards. He gained countless magazine Cover Stories, Press, Radio and Television Appearances, TV and Film Work, Writing on an international level, etc.etc.
Beyond the honors and acclaim, Brandon was inspired by the way fans reacted to his music, which he provides without any kind of sugarcoating. br/>
I sometimes hear that I’m not enough of this or that, he adds, but if one person feels better because they connected with my stuff, then I dont care how people look me or what they think about me anymore. I feel that I did something.
Man Born Blind continues that theme. For me what the title of the album means is that we are all born without a clue and the songs are about finding something that works for you, he explains.
A spin through the songs on Man Born Blind is proof enough that Brandon Reid not only knows what he's writing about, he knows how to put that knowledge into words and song, describing the pain and the exhilaration of the many paths that he”s taken.
Reid has shared the stage with great artist such as Alice Cooper, Tesla, Steven Stills of Steven, Stills and Nash, Don Felder of the Eagles, Ace Young (American Idol) CTA, Glen Hughes of Deep Purple, Ronnie Montrose, Holy Soldier, Tommy Shaw of the Styx, Siren, Roger Clyne & The PeaceMakers, Jimmy Degrasso and David Ellefeson of Mega Death, Carman Appice, Billy Ashabugh, Chad Smith of Red Chili Peppers, to name a few..
Brandon is already nearly finished with the another album and will be headed to the studio this Spring. "
