Dave was born to Clyde & Moleen Plunkert, who were arrested while trying to run an illegal distillery in a stable outside of Sordid Pine, Tennessee. While Moleen was attempting to escape on the back of a mule and at almost the same moment that the authorities slapped the handcuffs on her, she gave birth to her 13th child. Even then, she knew by Dave's cries that he was destined to be a musician. Dave, however, didn't realize his god-forsaken talent while his parents were in prison and he was growing up as the adopted son of a hog farmer, who provided him with ham hocks, a stable home and a surname, while instructing him in the fine art of dispatching a pig in the hope that he'd turn it into a career. But what he heard on a daily basis in the way of cries of death in the slaughterhouse planted the seeds for what was to come, and became a major influence on his music. By accident one day, as he was hunting down some prodigal swine that had high tailed it out of the hog house, he found himself by accident on the doorstep of Clyde & Moleen, who since their release had started a Family Entertainment Center that was already becoming well known for its alligator fighting and the Viella County all-night skunk wrestling contest, and while the locals were drinking Ripple and enjoying themselves firing greased piglets from a homemade slingshot, someone asked Dave to pick up the banjo...
