Elijah Bossenbroek was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He started playing the piano at age six, but wasn't a typical piano player. He often hated the dull repetition behind learning notes and playing to metronomes. Frustrated, Elijah began writing his own piano compositions at age fourteen.

At the age of eighteen, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he spent the better part of 5 years traveling to places such as Mississippi, Japan, California, and Kuwait. Upon his return from the deserts of Kuwait, Elijah purchased a home recording studio and began working on his first album, "Harmony In Disarray,".
In 2007 after gaining a lot of popularity and momentum in the music industry, he was noticed by an A&R at "A Matter of Substance Records" which singed him on a record deal and produced his anticipated second album “Carpe Lumen”.

    I don't know how anyone could rate Elijah anything less than 5 stars. Another wonderful album! His piano technique is one of a kind and full of emotion. He captures the heart of the listener without words, each theme and each bending of the theme. He is going places, people. Keep 'em coming.

    Only once before have I heard and felt music in my ears, my soul, my spirit and my body...and that was in an amazing dream of the rapture when I was seventeen. This music was so close to it that I know that Isaiah is God inspired, as was his namesake. Never again will I settle for the mundane in any aspect of my life. I have not only been transported by Isaiah's Carpe Lumen, but transformed. I could go on with all the superlative adjectives, but really, no words will do. The three poems he chose to include in the CD jacket lit were exquisite. Many kudos to the whole team who produced this wonderful CD. Now of course,I need several more to give.

    I OWN BOTH OF ELIJAHS CD'S. THEY'RE BOTH EXCELLENT!!! I RECOMMEND ELIJAH'S MUSIC TO THE ENTIRE CLASSICAL POPULATION AND BEYOND. HIS MUSIC IS BREATH TAKING AND VERY RELAXING :-). ALTHOUGH THE ONLY THING CLOSE IN COMPARISON WOULD BE YANNI. ELIJAH HAS DISTINCT AND UNIQUE NOTES IN HIS MUSIC. WITH MUCH DETERMINATION IN FOLLOWING THE JOURNEY OF HIS DREAMS.     Both of Elijah's CD are great! My favorite song is "I Give Up." This song takes me into a far off world in my own imagination. I first heard Elijah's music on MySpace and had to have it in my collection. I hope that Elijah continues to make CDs. I can't wait for more!!

    Elijah Bossenbroek's music is new to me but when I heard "Rest" from his "Carpe Lumen" album on a website radio station I had to go to a website and hear the rest of the CD. I purchased it and the words I think of to describe the album is "a tears-to-the-eyes journey". So beautiful... so soft at first then leading into powerful hand-dancing. Absolutely one of the best albums I have heard in a long time. I am not disappointed. His passion definitely flows into your heart and causes one to close their eyes and just "listen...." Thank you, Elijah, for a wonderful ride.

    This CD takes me away - better than Calgon ever could. I can close my eyes and magically be relaxing in a meadow or floating in the ocean. It truly is a work of art...if you are considering buying this CD but you aren't sure DO IT! It will be LOVE at first listen.

    “Carpe Lumen” is the second release from young Arizona pianist Elijah Bossenbroek. Fiercely original, Bossenbroek’s music is a combination of piano with digital accompaniment and sound effects. The music is strong, powerful, and full of emotion. My only real criticism of this CD is the piano itself, which sometimes has a brittle, metallic sound that electronic pianos often have. It isn’t as noticeable when there are layers of other instruments or sounds, but when the piano comes to the forefront, these ears wish for the resonance of a good acoustic instrument. That being said, this is a CD that deserves to be widely heard. The music is too “big” for new age, too contemporary for classical, and not jazz or pop either; Bossenbroek seems to be headed in the unclassifiable direction where art happens. At a time when so many recordings are in a cookie-cutter mold, this is an exciting find! The CD liner notes and Bossenbroek’s website give very little information about the music or the artist, but this CD seems to be telling a very personal story. Three poems with the same titles as three of the pieces are included (not written by Bossenbroek), telling part of the story, but making it even a bit more mysterious. “I Give Up” opens the collection on a rather dark note, as the title implies. Intense and swirling, this piece has a huge emotional range. “Prism” is much gentler and more playful, much like colored sparkles dancing in the light. “Rest” is one of my favorite tracks. A minor key waltz with an infectious energy and a beautiful melody, it is both melancholy and hopeful. “Life’s a Stage Play” is an incredible piano solo that would be so much better served by a “real” piano. Emotionally compelling and powerful, this one reminds me a little bit of Dax Johnson (one of my favorite artists). “Assault” is very dark and anguished yet extremely beautiful - a real powerhouse of a piece (also a favorite). “Always Faithful” has several sonic references to the military, undoubtedly a reference to the composer’s time in the Marines. “Deserted” is agitated and in turmoil while “Wonder” becomes much calmer and more innocent. “Reality Begins” is introspective, but much more hopeful and optimistic, coming from a place of darkness and pain. “Falling Away” seems to be continuing to move toward a lighter and happier place, a transformation of sorts. The closing track is a lovely arrangement of “Amazing Grace” that begins very quietly with just the melody line and then several variations that conclude this fascinating musical journey on a lighter note. I’m very impressed with “Carpe Lumen” and the music of Elijah Bossenbroek, and think we have a artist to really keep an eye (and ear!) on! Very highly recommended for a powerful musical experience.
