power folk, fusing the sensitive, the angry, and the tongue-in-cheek

notes

Winner of the 2001 Boston Music Award for "Best New Singer Songwriter!"

Nate Borofsky fuses the sensitive, the angry, and the tongue-in-cheek into his own blend of power folk, tying it all together with melodies that will make you cry.

An intensely personal songwriter, Nate's lyrics are a stream of introspective images accented with gentle irony and honest reflection. He delivers his words with a smooth and yearning vocal style and emphasizes key phrases with an appealing inflection.

Nate's musical heroes range from Beethoven to the Indigo Girls and he has an interest in atonal musical composition. This diversity of styles finds its way into his guitar playing and can create an intriguing contrast between voice and instrument.

  • This is a fun, sensitive, honest and captivating CD!

Nate's songs are fun, sensitive, honest, and very entertaining! He's a terrific songwriter and musician, and I enjoy this solo effort just about as much as his CD's with Girlyman.

  • Talented Songwriter

I would give the CD 3 and a half stars but they wouldn't let me. This CD proves that Nate is truly a talented songwriter, and not just being brought up a notch with good production and spectacular harmonies in Girlyman. That said, no single Beatle was ever as good as the whole, and Nate made a smart move when he joined Ty and Doris, as together they far exceed what each of them could do on their own. This CD is still certainly worth the purchase price and may even have some collector value when Girlyman hits the BIG TIME!

  • This is such an awesome CD!

Nate's solo album, done several years before he joined up with Ty and Doris and they became Girlyman, is a premonition of the amazing stuff to come... for example, a solo version of "Viola" that sounds almost as amazing as the Girlyman version...also "The Bus Song" and "Beautiful Boy" are just such wonderful works. Don't get me wrong, I think I'd die if Girlyman ever ceased to be, but Nate could definitely have his own solo career if it happened... and I'd listen to all his CDs! Buy this if you love Girlyman! -- you will not be disappointed.

  • i heart nate!

the bus song drew me in, and the rest kept me listening! i love nate's writing and his songs make me happy.. even the sad ones. his (future) fellow gman member doris sings harmonies on some of these tracks. gman fans will appreciate this cd except for one song - viola. once you've heard ty and doris on this song, nate's solo version just seems to be missing something.

  • Great lyrics and wonderful melodies. Girlyman fans will love it!
    author: Girlyman fan

This CD is worth the price just for "The Bus Song" and the pre-Girlyman version of "Viola." Girlyman's getting big, so get this CD while you can.

My CD came in the mail today and I could not be happier. I played it immediately and it is every bit as good as I hoped.

  • ready to move up the singer-songwriter circuit
author: Matthew S. Robinson, Metronome Magazine

Nate commandingly works his Ovation while weaving his distinctive thematic style... [his] subject material is original while his approach is frank... [he] appears ready to move up the singer-songwriter circuit.

  • healthy doses of musicianship and humor
    author: Dylan Siegler, Billboard

Borofsky harnesses his honesty... blending in healthy doses of musicianship and humor.
